Dear friends
Today we celebrate the 130th anniversary of the brilliant and genius Lev Theremin.

Lev Theremin is remarkable and truly unique person who gave the world a new way of interacting with sound — a physicist and acoustician, astronomer, inventor, philosopher, researcher, and visionary.

It is hard to believe that more than a century has passed since Lev Theremin's birth. The instruments created by Lev Theremin continue to inspire and fascinate us today, as though they had been invented only yesterday.

And in a very real sense, this is true. When we speak of the theremin, there is no break i in music and in time continium.

All the challenges Lev Theremin faced a century ago remain relevant today. Of course, we are not speaking about the technical side of things, but about the human factor.

In an age of mass consumption, the theremin remains an instrument that demands a high level of inner culture, as well as patient, consistent, and careful study. It truly is an instrument of the future — one that requires us to develop as human beings and to immerse ourselves deeply in the process.

The theremin responds to every movement we make: to every breath, to our every mood, to every our emotion. Lev Theremin said that the connection between a person and the theremin could only be compared to the connection between a person and his or her own voice.

The theremin is a phenomenon that is infinitely alive and beautiful.

For us, the theremin is a pearl and a triumph of the human spirit — something sacred and profoundly close to the heart.

✨ taken in Ankara, Türkiye by @petertheremin

Theremin, Lev Theremin tarafından 1920 yılında icat edilen ve dokunmadan çalınan dünyanın ilk elektronik müzik aletlerinden biridir. Eller havada hareket ettirilerek sesin perdesi ve yüksekliği kontrol edilir. Kendine özgü, büyüleyici ve gizemli sesiyle theremin, elektronik müziğin tarihinin başlangıcını simgeleyen en önemli enstrümanlardan biridir.

Ekim ayında ise Lev Theremin’in torununun torunu Peter Theremin, Türkiye’nin farklı şehirlerinde gerçekleşecek bir turneyle thereminin eşsiz sesini dinleyicilerle buluşturacak.

Today is the birthday of the great composer Dmitri Shostakovich. I’m sharing my version of the “Waltz,” which I play on the theremin—a contactless musical instrument invented by my great-grandfather Leon Theremin in 1919.
Dmitri Shostakovich was the first composer to use the theremin in cinema: in 1931, he used it in the score for the film Alone (Odna).
