DJ, writer and producer Kate Butler speaking to a packed house at TU Dublin School of Art & Design this morning, on ‘Control’ her 4 part documentary for 2fm, and the visibility of women and technology in pop music. Compelling stuff. In the foreground is a copy of ‘Mesh Net’ which Kate edited with Roo Honeychild. Kate’s ‘Manual to Dance’ is forthcoming on ALSO editions, each with a unique playlist.

Delighted to announce that DJ, writer and producer Kate Butler will be joining us at TU Dublin tomorrow for ‘How Do I Look? - Control, Women and Music Technology’
In this talk about the recent 2FM series, Control, producer Kate discusses one of the documentary’s most important themes: visibility. How important is it for women to be seen using music technology and working as producers? Why was women’s historic work with music technology hidden? And does visibility help women today be accepted as music technologists by the industry and audiences?

This is an ALSO editions event.
Currently in development is Kate’s ‘Manual to dance’, a forthcoming ALSO editions release. #katebutler #control #2fm by @peterwmaybury

For the first week back in the School of Art & Design we ran a vertical studio project for years 1–4 Visual Communication. Working in pairs across year-groups, students were asked to prepare a parcel that persuasively presents an issue or subject matter that is important to them. The outcomes are arranged on shelves, like a depot, where viewers can take an item from the shelf, open it, and engage with its contents. This was on view during Culture Night.

Aside from the remarkable quality, depth, and breadth of the work produced, there was a fantastic atmosphere of learning, exchange, and emerging friendships in the studio all week. I feel lucky to be able be part of something like this. Thanks to colleagues Brenda Dermody, Brenda Duggan, Louise Reddy, Ben Readman, Oonagh Young. by @peterwmaybury

Sifting through a box of tapes with my mum who uncovered this hand-painted sign from the (?)1960s, used as a folder cover. Lovely lettering. Rolos were invented in 1937, apparently. by @peterwmaybury
