adult cats barely meow at each other. the meow is for you 🐈

grown cats mostly talk to other cats with scent, posture and body language. the meow is a kitten sound — something they use on their mother and then largely grow out of.

except with us. housecats keep meowing their whole lives, aimed almost entirely at humans.

and they tune it. pitch, length, urgency — until they land on the one that actually gets you off the sofa.

your cat didn’t learn your language. it built one, for you specifically.

what does your cat’s “feed me” sound like? 👇

in 2007 a tiny Japanese railway was about to shut a station it couldn’t afford to staff.

so they gave the job to the calico who already lived there 🐈

her name was Tama. she got a stationmaster’s cap and a salary paid in cat food.

ridership rose 17% in her first month. an economist later put her impact on the local economy at around ¥1.1 billion.

then she kept getting promoted. Knight. Super Stationmaster. Acting President of the railway. Ultra Stationmaster.

when she died in 2015 they made her Honorary Eternal Stationmaster.

she saved the line. would you have hired her? Let us know below!👇 @pets
