“The beauty of the heart

is the lasting beauty:

its lips give to drink

of the water of life.
Truly it is the water,

that which pours,

and the one who drinks.

All three become one when

your talisman is shattered.

That oneness you can’t know” by @peytonlilly

Begun in 785 & built over 200 years, La Mezquita is a relic of Iberia & the city of Cordoba when the city was called 'the Ornament of the World'. Home to philosophers & scientists at least since Roman times, Cordoba was, in this age, the center of intellectualism in western Europe.

Rising over the ruins of Visigothic & Roman temples before it, La Mezquita incorporates stones, columns & design from its predecessors & has carried them on for over twelve hundred years. Catholic Castile, upon capturing the city from its Muslim rulers in 1236, preserved it intact for its beauty for almost three hundred years before King Charles V authorized the construction of a cathedral nave inside of the voluminous temple in 1523. It is said that upon seeing the cathedral space rising from La Mezquita's middle, he remarked, "You have built what could have been built anywhere, & destroyed what was unique in the world."

For all this, the cathedral space is a great, high vault of white light that glows from the heart of the shadowbound column-forest around it. One of our favorite spots in Spain taken in La Mezquita, Córdoba, España by @peytonlilly

These past 2 weeks with @abbygranlund have highlighted the beauty of a true-deep- friendship. “A friend is someone who knows everything about your life and still loves you.” —Buddha
Abby is the definition of selflessness. I couldn't be more thankful for this time together and all of the help she gave... 😌🩷

Things we learned on our first roadtrip:
1. Our baby likes it COLD. We quickly learned that we have to BLAST the air conditioning and fan her constantly, especially during the summer in Spain. 😅
2. Staying organized in a car for hours and hours is the hardest thing to maintain.
3. Call the hotel or Airbnb beforehand to confirm that there is air conditioning and that it WORKS.
4. Breast milk collected from letdown wasn’t able to be saved, even with a super nice cooler.
5. Listening to your baby’s demands is KEY to keeping the adventure happy. If she needs to eat, she eats NOW. If she has a dirty diaper, we change it NOW.
6. Unless someone has the balls to tell you what to do with your baby, whip out your boob on the spot, change her in the car—even if someone has been waiting for your parking spot forever because your baby just had a massive blowout—and lay her on the table at the restaurant because she needs her back to not be compressed from being in her car seat all day. 😂
7. I feed the baby, Daddy changes the diapers—especially at night.
8. Time it just right! Diaper change, then feed, then PACK IT UP and get going!
9. Be flexible with your plans. Have different ways the plan could go that would still be fun. 😂
10. Baby language can be understood surprisingly quickly. 😅

We made the brave decision to take our 2 week old baby to Northern Spain to see the Total Eclipse! ✨😍😱🥰✨ Sleep deprivation and recovery from a c-section wasn't going to let us miss this opportunity! 🤘🏻😆🤘🏻 We also showed Deya some real life dinosaur foot prints, a replica of a cave that has Neanderthal paintings dating back 36,000 years ago, incredible mountain ranges, mystical folklore, and a medieval town. She already has the coolest travel itinerary. 😍

I want to share my birth experience because it's a story of where surrender truly matters. First of all, my birth plan did not turn out at all how I wanted it to. I wanted the "instagram influencer - all natural - no intervention - hippie dippie - birth"... if you know what I mean.
At 4:00am on July 27th, I woke up to a true contraction I hadn't felt before. I tried going back to sleep, but soon awoke to another. Coming out into the living room, I did some birthing ball exercises and felt the need to stay awake to start timing in case if this was the start of early labor. After an hour went by, my contraction app told me I should get ready for the hospital and pack my bags until it was time to leave.
** My original hope and dream was to do a water-at home-birth. Due to bureaucracy with home births in Spain (and maybe a lack of planning), this does not happen for us.**
My husband and I set up our bedroom to camp out in for a while until my contractions progressed more and got the car ready for when the time was right to leave.
After 15 hours laboring at home, they had reached the point of intensity where I finally said we had to go to the hospital. They were about a minute and a half long, 7 minutes apart.
