Message from Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi Ji

The recent Supreme Court proceedings on community dogs have created concern among animal caregivers across the country. At such times, it is important not to react with panic or emotion, but with unity, clarity, and organisation.

For many years, India’s animal welfare movement has survived because compassionate citizens stood together. Feeders, rescuers, volunteers, veterinarians, caretakers, legal activists, and ordinary people have protected animals through consistent work on the ground, often quietly and without recognition.

Today, more than ever, we need a united front. Animal welfare cannot function in isolation. Every city, district, and colony must have people who are connected, informed, and prepared to respond lawfully and peacefully whenever animals are at risk.

Building stronger volunteer networks and rapid response teams at the local level is one important step in that direction. Coordination, awareness, documentation, and immediate lawful intervention can make a significant difference in protecting animals and preventing cruelty.

Please counter all the rumours, edited videos, or misinformation circulating online. Stick to facts. Understand the law carefully. Act responsibly and peacefully at all times.

This is not the time to become divided or discouraged. It is the time to become more organised, more disciplined, and more united in our commitment towards India’s animals.

To every volunteer and animal caregiver: never underestimate the power of consistent, collective action. Real change is built by people who continue to show up, protect, document, rescue, and stand firm even in difficult moments.

Stay united. Stay informed. Stay active on the ground.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने जो नया आदेश दिया है, उसे ज़मीन पर लागू करना बिल्कुल नामुमकिन है।
यह केवल मुश्किल नहीं, बल्कि व्यवहार में लाना कहीं भी संभव नहीं है — न एक शहर में और न ही पूरे देश में।

यह फैसला तर्क, ABC (एनिमल बर्थ कंट्रोल) नियमों और समुदायिक कुत्तों के साथ शांतिपूर्ण सह-अस्तित्व के लिए किए गए सभी मानवीय प्रयासों के विपरीत है।

ज़मीनी हालात ऐसे आदेश को संभाल ही नहीं सकते — शेल्टर पहले से भरे हैं, नगर निगम तैयार नहीं हैं, और वॉलंटियर्स पहले ही अपनी क्षमता से ज़्यादा काम कर रहे हैं।

यह आदेश सिर्फ़ निराश करने वाला नहीं, बल्कि बेहद खतरनाक है।

A message from Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi ji

Lumpy Skin Disease is a very painful disease, and affected cattle need immediate care.

If you see a cow with lumps on the body, fever, weakness or other signs of illness, please do not leave the animal to suffer.

Call your Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) and ask for help. Government veterinary departments can provide vaccination and treatment support where available. You can also contact a local veterinarian.

Please remember, an animal in pain cannot ask for help.

If you see cattle showing signs of Lumpy Skin Disease, please stop and make the call. Do not leave them stranded.

A little attention from us can mean timely care for a sentient in need.

Sometimes, what we call an animal’s “nature” is really a reflection of the conditions we’ve put them in.

Pigs are a striking example. Their natural behaviour tells a very different story from the stereotype we’ve attached to them.

Maybe it’s time we questioned the label - and looked instead at the environment that created it.

Share this with someone who still thinks pigs are dirty animals.

$Two months of care, rehabilitation and flight training, and finally, freedom. This young Indian Vulture was rescued with a fractured leg and cared for at PFA Wildlife Hospital @pfawildlifehospital . After successfully completing the flight assessment, the vulture was then released back into the wild.
