PFT members were all smiles this #AFTDayofAction despite the rain! From Mastbaum HS to Childs Elementary, Bartram HS to Clara Barton, PFT members leafletted outside of their schools in the AM and PM to help empower families and neighbors to take action on behalf of our students. With Philly public schools once again on the chopping block, we need to make sure Governor Josh Shapiro's education funding package is approved -- on time -- so that @philly_schools maintains the financial stability we've long fought for. Our schools deserve funding, and our communities must be given a greater role in the District's Facilities Master Plan. Governor Shapiro and House and Senate Democrats agree: Philly public schools deserve robust investment to make up for decades of deprivation under past leadership. We were thrilled to be at the @aftunion convention when President Randi Weingarten announced a record membership of 1.88 million, with nearly 60,000 members in 179 new units organized over the last two years! This is a BFD at a time when the federal government is the most openly hostile to organized labor in generations.These past few days of building solidarity and strengthening organizing skills will carry us through the start of the new school year and must-win midterm elections ❤️💪🏽Congratulations to South Philly HS building rep William Sax on being recognized for your organizing work as part of the AFT Black Caucus X Educators of Color Chapter! MEMBERS: After meeting with @philly_schools leadership, they agreed to double the staff processing term pay. The additional staff are expected to be in place by the end of summer. This change should double the number of term payments SDP is able to process. #PhlEd #PFTstrong by @pftlocal3
