"This beautiful #veteransmemorial located in Burnsville, WV, is a testament to the respect that our citizens have for its #veterans , both past and present. The project was entirely funded through private donations and fundraisers. Additionally, dozens of people volunteered their time and resources preparing the memorial site while others helped with fundraisers. There is no greater satisfaction than seeing the pride our Veterans have for this memorial."

It is the oldest military award still presented to military servicemembers wounded in combat and posthumously to the next of kin, for those killed in action or who die of wounds received in action.
