Western Semi-Pemi Complete: Mount Liberty, Little Haystack, Lincoln, North Lincoln, Lafayette, Garfield, East Garfield, Galehead! 🏔️🥾🍁🍂🎃

I told Megan that if I’m to complete the 48 by age 30, then we have to summit 12 a year. Well here we are doing exactly what we said we would do! 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 of our NH48 journey! I can’t quite capture the strenuous nature of this trail, the falls we took, the vomit, and the too heavy packs that have left us bruised, nor can I capture the beauty of the Franconia foliage, Yogi the caretaker who wanted beads on his boots, the clear skies and stars, the dirt under my nails, the strength, the laughs, Hannah & Megan, and the spirit. 35 to go! Summit summer, New Hampshire 48 summer, stateside summer, side quest summer, national park summer! 🥾🌲🗻🗺️

Six national parks, thousands of feet of elevation, seven NH48 4K footer summits and two huts, the entire presidential traverse, the boroughs, freemont lookout, wonderland trail, skyline trail, cascade pass, beehive, Sahale arm, hall of mosses, grove of titans, and we’re just getting started!

Three years ago I went back to Asheville for the first time since childhood. After three trails, crying on the blue ridge parkway, and the worst knee pain of my life, I decided that hiking was going to be my new hobby. I would call it a return to home. I cannot believe a trip to Asheville 3 years ago changed my life. I cannot believe the person who used to hike in tennis shoes and a Herschel backpack, who hiked the Ne Pali coast barefoot, whose very first hike was Seneca Rock at 8 years old, who hiked the alps in France with grenadine, and who went “missing” on a trail in New Mexico is the hiker I am today. :,) I thought this summer I became a true hiker, but I always have been, I’ve just nurtured the identity.

Around the time of that Asheville trip I had met Megan who taught me the 10 essentials, encouraged me to buy my first pair of boots, and influenced me to become an REI member for life. Megan taught me everything I know. Hannah taught Megan. So proud to be a hiker in the Hause of Hannah ™️

We crushed the #presidentialtraverse 🥾🏔️🌲!! Hannah, Megan, and I reserved bunks at Lakes of the Clouds Hut and Mizpah Spring Hut 🛖, meaning we skipped over Madison Spring Hut and hiked straight to Lakes(very very hard). We were able to summit Madison, Adams (second highest peak on east coast), and Jefferson before the weather got so terrible that we had to run to the hut in a rain storm. The next day we hit Monroe, Eisenhower, and Pierce and stayed at Mizpah. I wish I had words for this hike. It was so grueling and terrible, but also so so so magical. The hut crew also made it so worth it by putting on plays and waking up the guests by singing Linger by the Cranberries. Lastly, I had my fav people and Bart to keep me going. Megan and I are attempting the NH 48, we hit summit 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 on this trip. My heart and cups are so so so full. I am so happy to be Appalachian and an Appalachian Mountain Club Member. I’m so thankful for Megan and my friends who are down to suffer with me. Now onto 9, 10, and 11!

📍Oregon & Northern Cal: Mt Hood, Timberline Lodge, Bend, Crater Lake National Park, Shady Cove, Bandon Beach, Cannon Beach, Redwoods National Park, Portland w/ my fav person. 🌋

Ask me about the Mt Hood tragedy of 1986, wildfires, the timber and logging industry, how Crater Lake is actually a volcano, and the spotted owl.

📍76,000 steps in Mount Rainier National Park Paradise and Sunrise Side: Mount Fremont Lookout, Wonderland Trail, Skyline Trail, Tipsoo Lake, Reflection Lake, Burroughs Mtn Trail (1 and 2) w/ my fav person. At some point, I became a true hiker.

Rainier (Tahoma) stands at 14,410 ft (state route 410 is named after her height) is made up of 28 named glaciers, and is an active volcano. This mountain understands an experience of multiplicity and challenges the human notion of identity as a singular, static thing. She’s surrounded by wildflowers, sometimes hidden behind thick clouds, and has a trail that wraps around the perimeter; taking about 2 weeks to complete. She’s home to endangered species and really the most beautiful meadows and alpine you’ve ever seen (also lots of marmots)! Fay Fuller was the first woman to reach the summit with charcoal on her face to avoid the sun rays (a lesson I could learn).

There’s not enough pictures or words to explain the beauty of this park. Maybe one of my favorite places ever. If you get the chance to, go, you won’t regret it! Please go outside when you get the chance, and as always, leave no trace!!!!

Maybe the most beautiful hike ever, truly no words or photos really do it justice. I’ll just say I definitely cried! I want the views tattooed on the back of my eyelids so that I see them every time I blink or close my eyes. 🏔️
