POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
From 86-89 as a high school senior to 91.5 avg and 95 max at Maryland, coming off elbow surgery.

Evan Smith has been with us since his senior year of high school, sitting 86-89 and topping out at 90-91. The path since then was anything but a straight line.

Heading into his freshman year at Maryland, Evan already had a lot working in his favor:

* Commands the zone at a high level
* Has strong feel for his CH
* Throws a developing gyro SL
* Owns a FB profile that plays

The biggest question: could we raise his velocity floor enough to let the rest of the arsenal play up?

As a freshman, Evan worked mostly out of the bullpen before earning starts late in the year. He finished averaging 89 with a PR of 92.1, trending toward a full-time starting role.

Then elbow pain led to internal brace surgery.

The timeline changed, but it gave us a chance to build a better foundation. Physically, we had a full year to add lean mass during his return to throw. Force plate data guided our planning to better leverage spring and tendon stiffness.

Mechanically, we took a constraint-focused approach throughout his throwing progression. The main driver was learning to use his spine and flexion better and create cleaner "breaks" in the delivery: closing the gap for the pelvis to work through and delaying torso over-rotation through release.

As those pieces came together, the velo followed.

Evan returned in 2026 averaging 91.5 and touching 95, with plenty of 93s and 94s. Coming off surgery, that's a huge step.

This summer the focus shifted again:

* Raise the velocity floor
* Stay healthy
* Keep building command
* Develop a secondary pitch to complement the FB/CH

That led us to the sweeper.

Early on, it lived around -1" IVB and -3" of horizontal break, without a shape consistent enough to stand apart. Through the summer and fall, we've moved it toward ~0" IVB with 7-10" of horizontal break.

Now Evan has a third shape he can lean on, so he isn't relying mostly on the FB/CH combo.

We're proud of the way Evan attacked his rehab and kept building through it, and we're excited to see his next step this spring. by @ph3performance

Calvin Douglas came to us sitting 86–89, topping 90. 🔥

A year later, he's sitting in the low 90s and has been up to 95.

But for Calvin, the goal was never just about throwing harder.

Coming off his freshman season, Calvin had thrown just 2 innings. The raw ability was there, especially with the CB, but the biggest question was: how do we get him on the field more and put him in a position to contribute at a high level?

Calvin already possessed two high-level breaking balls he could lean on. The bigger challenge was learning how to command that arsenal, understand where each pitch played best, and execute it consistently in the high-leverage situations he would face as a reliever. 🎯

We attacked that by making his bullpen environments more difficult and introducing more variability, forcing him to execute pitches and solve problems under constraints that better represented his role in-game.

After throwing just 2 innings in 2025, Calvin jumped to 31 innings with 42 strikeouts the following season.

From there, the focus shifted.

After entering the transfer portal and committing to Elon, we went into the offseason with two primary goals:

Improve the changeup (switched to a more reverse horseshoe approach) and find another level of velocity. The CH took strides from minimal separation off the heater to now getting close to the 0 line with 15 inches of run.

Mechanically, Calvin had a tendency to over-drift, extend off the back leg, and lose posture into a more east-west movement pattern.

Through his assessment, we felt his natural movement bias fit a more north-south solution.

Rather than fighting that, we leaned into it.

We emphasized more lateral flexion through the spine, allowed him to utilize his extension bias, and cleaned up how he organized his center of mass behind the lead leg.

Once that clicked, the velo followed. 📈

Calvin topped 95 this summer and has consistently been sitting 91–94.

From 2 innings as a freshman to becoming a legitimate bullpen weapon, adding velocity, and earning an opportunity at Elon, Calvin has made a massive jump in a short period of time.

Excited to see what the next step looks like for him at Elon. 🚀 by @ph3performance

Cole Irvin is Tread's MiLB Pitcher of the Year! 🏆

Cole has trained with Tread since October 2023. After spending 2025 in the KBO with the Doosan Bears, where he posted a 4.48 ERA over 144.2 innings, he returned stateside this season and signed with the Dodgers organization.

In 2026, he became one of the most durable arms in Triple-A. Pitching for Oklahoma City (AAA), he led the Pacific Coast League in wins (12) and ERA (3.33), tied for the league lead in starts (28), and ranked 2nd in innings (137.2). 💪

In one of the most hitter-friendly leagues in baseball, Cole managed to keep the ball in the yard. He allowed just 7 home runs all season, and his 0.46 HR/9 ranked 3rd in the PCL and 4th in all of Triple-A. Hitters slugged .362 against him, well below the .453 league average.

He also reworked his arsenal, reshaping his breaking ball and more than doubling his cutter usage. Since 2024, hitters' xSLG against the breaking ball has dropped from .386 to .279. 📈

The season also brought a special moment for Cole. On July 31st, the Orange County native made his Dodgers debut, his first big league start since 2024, and struck out 5 across 6.0 innings. 🌴

Huge year, Cole. 👏 by @ph3performance

Congrats to Calvin Douglas on going from D2 to D1 out of the Transfer Portal Showcase! 📈

The righty took a massive step forward in 2026, going from a 13.50 ERA in 4 appearances as a freshman to a 3.41 ERA across 23 appearances this spring, racking up 42 strikeouts in 31.2 innings for Catawba College (D2).

At the showcase, he averaged 90.1 mph (T91.9) with 18.6" IVB on his fastball. Now, he's headed to Elon University! 💪

(He also just snagged a 95 mph PR at Tread HQ last week.)

6'8" Vandy Commit's 95 MPH Mechanics 🦾

Coach's post from Paul Hall on his athlete, RJ Cope:

When we first started over a year ago, RJ was sitting upper 80's to low 90's with sporadic command. A lot of this is attributed to the need to learn to use his body and to simplify the delivery.

He had a disconnection early on in the delivery with too much hand movement, getting away from his body and ultimately getting above his head before hand break. This sounds like it wouldn't be a big deal, but when you have too much movement, it can create downstream effects with the timing of the arm.

RJ was swinging open the lead leg out of peak leg lift, forcing himself to have an energy leak with both directions in stride and early torso rotation. Ultimately affecting lead leg mechanics (late and unstable block).

The changes came by gaining more flexion with the torso coming into peak leg lift. Keeping the hands closer to the body and ultimately leveraging proper timing of counter rotation. Both at the torso level and the pelvis.

This led to a jump not only in his velo, averaging 94-96 mph regularly, but in his ability to command the ball more effectively. by @ph3performance

RJ Cope is an incredibly athletic two-way Vandy commit who is garnering MLB Draft interest. After a dominant senior spring, the mid-90s lefty is developing his arsenal for the next level. 📈

His splitter averaged 86.8 mph at 3.3" IVB and -9.9" HB in this summer pen. 👀 by @ph3performance
