“MY WORST MEMORY WAS SITTING IN PRISON AND BEING TOLD MY MUM PASSED AWAY.” 💔

In 2015, while sitting inside prison, David Roe received the news no son ever wants to hear.

His mum had passed away.

She had been his rock — and while David was caught up in that lifestyle, she would tell him:

“At least you’re in prison. I know where you are.”

That loss stayed with him.

But David made himself a promise — that one day his life would look completely different.

Today, after years of healing and rebuilding, David is preparing to take his partner and all of his kids back to Darwin to visit his mum’s grave.

And there’s something he wants to tell her:

“LOOK AT ME NOW.” ❤️

From spending years caught in crime and the prison system to rebuilding his family, working and finally finding stability.

She would be proud, brother. 🙏

“MY THREE GOALS WERE TO HEAL, FIND STABILITY AND RECONNECT WITH MY KIDS.” 💪

After years of struggle, David Roe knew he needed to focus on three things:

Healing.

Stability and structure — somewhere to live and a job.

And reconnecting with his children.

He achieved all three.

Then came something he never expected: a relationship with his partner.

Today, David says those things have helped make him feel whole.

But none of it happened without hard work.

He had to confront his past, do the healing and build a completely different life from the ground up.

After spending around 17 years in the prison system throughout his life, today David is working, paying his bills, rebuilding his relationship with his kids and living a life he’s proud of.

His message is simple:

“It’s not worth that lifestyle.”

This is why we share stories like David’s on PHATT TV — to show people that no matter how deep you’ve gone into that life, change is possible.

Now, he can look back and say the hard work is finally paying off.

This is what real redemption looks like — creating stability, rebuilding relationships and becoming proud of the person you are today.

“MY SON CAME TO VISIT ME IN PRISON… HE WAS 17.” 💔

David Roe hadn’t seen his son since around 2011.

Years later, while serving a six-year sentence in Victoria, his son walked into the prison to visit him — now 17 years old.

David had watched his little boy become a young man from a distance.

His mother had passed away. He’d spent years caught up in drugs, chasing quick money and living a lifestyle that kept him away from the people who mattered most.

Then came the realisation:

Something had to change.

David opens up about fatherhood, losing his mum, confronting his trauma and finally deciding he needed a different life.

This is what redemption is really about — not pretending the past didn’t happen, but deciding what you do next.

“THEY’D STRIP YOU DOWN TO YOUR JOCKS…” 😳

David Roe describes the conditions he says he experienced as a juvenile in detention — having his mattress removed during the day, being stripped down to his underwear and spending time in conditions that left lasting trauma.

But David makes an important point: his story isn’t only about him.

He acknowledges the other Aboriginal men and boys who went through the system and carried their own experiences and trauma with them.

“I carried a lot of trauma from when I was a juvenile.”

This is the side of David’s story that explains so much about what came later — and ultimately, why breaking the cycle became so important.

“23-HOUR LOCKDOWN… I WAS 14 YEARS OLD.” 🔒

At just 14, David Roe says he was placed in separate confinement during one of his admissions to juvenile detention.

Nearly THREE WEEKS.

23 hours a day locked down.

David explains how repeated admissions changed his mindset — what once felt frightening eventually became familiar as he learned the routine and knew what to expect.

This is one chapter from an extraordinary story that would eventually see David spend 17 years inside prisons across the Northern Territory and Victoria — before taking his life in a completely different direction.

“WHEN I WALKED IN… I FELT AT HOME.” 💔

Imagine being a young kid entering juvenile detention for the first time — scared, searched, locked in overnight and having no idea what was waiting for you when those doors opened.

David Roe remembers waking up at Don Dale and seeing all the other Aboriginal boys — the “brothers” who welcomed him in.

Instead of feeling like an outsider, he found something powerful inside those walls:

A sense of belonging. A brotherhood. A family.

And that’s one of the frightening realities of the cycle — when a young person feels more accepted inside detention than they do on the outside, going back can stop feeling scary.

“YOU WALK INTO PRISON… IT’S LIKE 95% ABORIGINAL.” 🇦🇺

David Roe speaks openly about a confronting side of Australia that many people have never experienced firsthand.

Growing up in the Northern Territory, David says Aboriginal people faced extremely harsh treatment from police and were massively overrepresented inside the prison system.

He also reflects on how different ethnic communities — including Greek and Italian Australians — experienced discrimination across different generations, while describing what he believes Aboriginal Australians endured as particularly severe.

Whether you agree or disagree, these are conversations worth having.

🚨 FROM STREET CREWS TO 17 YEARS BEHIND BARS… DAVID ROE’S STORY IS WILD.

David Roe is a proud Aboriginal man who grew up in Darwin, Northern Territory, surrounded by a life that eventually pulled him deep into street crews, violence and prison.

At one point, he says the crew had 70–80 members. His journey would take him through the NT and Victorian prison systems, ultimately spending around 17 YEARS behind bars.

But this podcast isn’t about glorifying that life.

It’s about where that road leads — and what it takes to change. 🙏

David sits down with PHATT TV for a raw conversation about growing up in Darwin, street life, DNC, juvenile detention, adult prison, brotherhood, violence, incarceration and ultimately redemption and turning his life around.

I CAN SEE EVERYTHING THE CAMERA SEES ON MY PHONE?! 🤯📱🎥

This genuinely blew me away.

The DJI Mimo app connects straight to the camera and suddenly I’m looking at the live camera feed right on my phone.

No touching the camera.
I can see what it sees.
I can control it through the app.
And it’s all integrated into the same DJI ecosystem. 🔥

My genuine first reaction says it all:

“HOW FING SICK IS THAT?!” 😂*

I’ve been putting the new DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro through its paces and there are so many little features that surprised me.

That moment when you realise just how much you can control on the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro without even touching the camera…

Then my brain immediately went somewhere it probably shouldn’t have. 😂
