So there is huge news on @ming__nguyen ‘s birthday week 🚨🚨🚨

I’ve been shortlisted for the @phmuseum ‘s Women Photographers Grant for my project with Ming, ‘…never loved…’ , alongside my @maphotographybristol course mate @mana.baoosh , with ‘We Are More Than Strangers.’

I am rather pleased such news has come at the right time to feel some sort of assurance, between the 16th of April and just last week when I was still feeling trepidations presenting my portfolio of work in men’s cargo trousers for comfort.
I am quite relieved, too, that my work this year has found resonance, since I would be lying if I say I hadn’t feel the most alone and pissed off at the beginning when I have set out to make the work that has become ‘…never loved…’ now. I’m thankful, however, that through all of this, I have been surrounded by an incomparably rich culture of women creatives, from Åsa whose 2024 book ‘Queer Methodologies…’ have largely influenced my current research in photographic practices, Alice, Juno and Katie whose autonomy expressed in pictures furthered my understanding of photography at large and portraiture as a medium. There are also Tara, Guia, Vascha, Sarahsson, kiik, Parv, Nova, Lola and Soma, whose cultural production truly raised the bar for creative excellence, and Amak who has been a key figure in creative nurturing during my Bristol journey. Then there are Phillipa, Sam and Kathy who straighten out my technical shortcomings, Maria, Bea and Esmé who always show incredible support, and Jess who loves like me and pains like me. I wouldn’t have even picked up a camera and pursued the craft had it not been for KT, Liv and Taylor, and of course Ming who gives herself entirely to the camera, who places unyielding trust in my picture-making hands to speak of our experiences both mutual and individual.

I’ve structured my display at @queeriosities_ over the weekend around bridging the methodology of ‘… never loved…’ with the philosophy of ‘Women’s Centre…’, centring on a state of desirousness born of radical boredom, and a kind of sexuality that fantasised about my own surveillance and destruction more than about mere pleasures.

Short edit extracted from ‘Women’s Centre…’ interlocking narratives with some lustmord overtones.

‘Stalker’ is an 8-slide story in 8 single-sided tearaway posters on 250gsm Southbank smooth paper, screw-bound as one volume with 90gsm black paper flyleaves, 185gsm Clairefontaine Pale Pink card title page, 1.5mm grey backing board and 200gsm Fabriano paper wraparound cover.
Each sheet (torn) measures 270 x 390 mm
Blank cover measures 270 x 1500 mm
