NDCWales are pleased to announce George H Wale and Phoebe Davies as Creative Associates 2026-2028. @georgehwale @phedaviesChosen by open call, the two Creative Associates are supported by National Dance Company Wales for a two-year programme of paid development to expand their practice in other artforms into dance. George H. Wale’s practice spans sculpture, live performance and costume design.Phoebe Davies is an artist & filmmaker based in South Wales. Her practice spans performance to camera, immersive installation, spatial sound and print. The programme includes creative development for Welsh and Wales-based artists through mentorship, studio-based research and a new commission with the company’s professional dancers. Swansea Performance Weekend Video Artist: Bhebhe&DaviesA Navigation, 2017A Navigation investigates personal journeys and perceptions of age, sexual identity, anxiety and desire, exploring the role and place of intimacy in all its manifestations; non physical, social, intellectual and emotional. To develop this work, Bhebhe&Davies collaborated with female performers over 50, to explore how women’s bodies negotiate histories, disrupt power structures and build solidarity. The film reflects on ageist assumptions through movement, considering how individuals occupy space, assert presence and shift perceptions. With vocal artist Randolph Matthews and sound designer Joseph Bond, the soundtrack draws on primal human sounds as expressions of the emotional self, reinforcing the work’s focus on embodied experience and the evolving relationship between identity and power.@nandibhebhe + @phedaviesSwansea Performance Weekend is generously funded by Arts Council Wales @celfcymruarts and is happening 20-23 November @glynnvivian Image courtesy of the artists by @phedavies
