Feature documentary, directed by @josefgatti

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@josefgatti’s approach to chemistry experiments produces dazzlingly psychedelic results in this spectacular, scientifically illuminating Australian debut.

Beginning its life a decade ago as a series of shorts, Phenomena takes mesmerising final form as a full-length feature: a masterful melding of art and science. Gatti’s articulate and charming voiceover narration – crafted with the assistance of his father, a physics teacher – offers a mind-blowing, singular journey into the hidden world around us.

Every image in this film is real.

Experience Adelaide-born Josef Gatti’s psychedelic odyssey into the fabric of the universe in his feature documentary debut.

With hypnotic music by the legendary Nils Frahm and an original score from Rival Consoles, PHENOMENA blurs the lines between art and science to reveal nature’s inner workings.

Excited to be bringing Phenomena to my hometown @adlfilmfest

So much of this film was crafted in Dad’s shed, in the eastern suburbs where I grew up. Many of the nature scenes were filmed in rural SA as well. Shoutout to @arkaroolaofficial one of the most beautiful and remote places I’ve ever visited.

I’ll be there for a special Q&A with Dad too!

My favourite of the new experiments, can’t wait for you to see this one!

Sometimes you make some good shit but it ends up on the cutting room floor.

Shoutout to Teon who came in on drums for a day, and Nij who has read every version of this film’s script since 2018.

Niraj Lal - Co-Producer
Teon Catalano - Special Thanks (lol) @teon14

I don’t know why Ned is cutting tomatoes on the floor. Budget might have been tight that day.

Ned Johnstone - Camera Assistant @nedjohnstone

Thanks Shu for nursing and co-parenting the slime mould with me. Tbh it was really all you
