To our Bailey Girl, it’s your gotcha day! 😌

You are a giant ball of sunshine in our lives, even on the rainiest days. You somehow make the bad days not so bad. A year ago, we walked into the adoption center “just to see,” and then we took one look at you and knew we had to take you home.

You bring so much love and joy into our lives, and to everyone you meet. You are the silliest, sweetest, and stinkiest girl, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Here’s to many more years of sunbathing, swimming, peanut butter, and snuggles. We love you so much, mamas💛☀️ by @phiagladieux

🗣️I genuinely get excited whenever I see field hockey getting exposure to an audience that may have never seen it before. But it’s also exhausting seeing the same type of comments constantly tearing down the sport. It makes me question why it has become such a norm for men to openly speak this way about women and women’s sports.

To be completely honest, it pisses me off.

Not because everyone has to like field hockey. You don’t have to watch it, play it, or care about it. But there’s a huge difference between not liking a sport and completely disregarding it because women play it.

The majority of these comments are coming from men who have never stepped onto a field hockey field, never picked up a stick, never played a full game, and have absolutely no idea what it takes physically or mentally to compete at this level.

You can have your opinion. But you don’t get to tell an entire group of women that something they’ve dedicated their lives to isn’t a sport simply because you don’t understand it.

Women don’t spend their time commenting on men’s sports saying they aren’t “real sports.” So why is it so acceptable for men to openly tear down a sport simply because it’s predominantly played by women?

Field hockey is a sport. It takes speed, strength, endurance, skill, toughness, coordination, intelligence, and an insane amount of work.

I love seeing field hockey get more exposure, and I hope we continue to get more of it. I just wish we didn’t have to constantly defend the legitimacy every time more people see it.

I’m not going to sit quietly while people disrespect something me, and so many others, have dedicated our lives to. 🏑✨💕
