new phikey track dropping this Fri - a collab with the incredible @ceciprod
this track was born in a smokey cafe in Amsterdam, written about the restlessness that comes with wanting to move forward but being heldback. I met Ceci after his DJ set by the canal in Amsterdam and i sent him the track and he loved it and wanted to collaborate and we made a beautiful ceci/phikey fusion.
Can’t wait for you to feel it !

(full story here..)
we’d been out on a boat in rio for my mate’s birthday. one of those afternoons that just keeps going, everyone loud, everyone happy, and then somewhere around sunset it all went quiet on its own.

we ended up lying on the back of the boat, not really talking, watching the sun drop and paint the whole sky pink and orange and purple.

and i had this feeling i don’t get very often. not thinking about anything that happened before, not thinking about anything coming. just there. “man, this is it.”

usually that’s gone by the morning. you wake up and it’s a nice memory and that’s all it is.

this one wasn’t. i woke up the next day and it was still sitting on me. so i came into the studio and tried to get it down before it left.

i think that’s the reason i make music, honestly. to keep a moment like that instead of watching it go. kind of like putting that emotion into a bottle so you can keep it forever.

maybe you’ve felt it as well? you hear that song that takes you back to the summer of 2015, or in a car on a road trip with someone you love.. or loved. the song didn’t do anything except hold onto it for you. It’s like we link memories to these songs.. even though the original artist has no idea.

it took months after this. i wrote lyrics, found a vocalist, threw a lot of it out. but the chords you can hear me playing here are the exact chords that are in the final track.
