Great weekend at MPSF’s watching so many Newport players and coaches making significant impacts with their teams including Stanford, USC, UCI, UCSB, Claremont, Princeton, Pepperdine, Santa Clara #, UCLA, Cal, and highlighted by @_jackwright13 scoring 5 goals vs LBSU to send it to sudden death. Great weekend for alumni and solid wins for the Bruins. by @phil.castillo

Early in my career, I thought great leadership was always being polished, prepared, and professional. Those qualities matter—they build confidence and credibility.
Over the years, I've learned that's only part of the equation.
The harder part is being genuine while balancing the needs of the business, your customers, your team, and your own values. It takes consistency, humility, and the confidence to lean in and be yourself.
One thing I tried to do as a leader was not take myself too seriously when the opportunity presented itself. This photo was from one of our sales kickoff theme nights. It was a chance to laugh together, create lasting memories, and remind everyone that high-performing teams don't have to be serious every minute of the day.
In my experience, people don't expect their leaders to be perfect. They do expect them to be authentic. Teams know the difference between someone who is simply playing the role of a leader and someone who genuinely cares about the people they're leading.
Professionalism builds credibility. Authenticity builds trust. The best leaders earn both. by @phil.castillo
