The largest companies in the world don’t hope their future works out. They plan for it.

Every year, they get clear on:
• what they stand for
• where they’re going
• who they need around them
• what’s broken or missing
• what matters this year, not someday
• and how they’ll stay accountable to it

Then they invest in that plan daily.

We’re taught to pour our energy into someone else’s vision.

But almost no one teaches us how to do this for our own lives.

And yet, you are the business.
Your energy is the asset.
Your time is the capital.
Your decisions compound faster than anything else you own.

For more than a decade now, @krista.franks and I have made strategic planning a non-negotiable.

Not as a productivity exercise.
As a life one.

We start with shared intention.
We define what kind of life we’re building.
We name what matters in this season.
And then we design our work, commitments, and goals around that.

Not the other way around.

When we flipped that order, everything changed.

We stopped drifting.
We stopped reacting.
We stopped letting years pass without direction.

This video is a glimpse into our strategic planning retreat this year.

It created alignment, connection, and shared action as we walk into 2026 knowing what we’re building toward, not just hoping it works out.

Cheers, my friends. Here’s to hoping you make your moves in 2026.

If you’re a “hell yes”, and want the framework we use to do this each year, drop a comment and I’ll send you the link. taken in Columbus, Ohio by @phil_franks

Today, I want to share something a bit more personal and, hopefully, encouraging for anyone going through a season of change. Almost eight years ago, I left my job with a pretty simple but profound family goal: to have the freedom to take my kids to the zoo on a Thursday morning, to be present with them in those everyday moments.

Looking back now, as we watch our youngest head off to kindergarten and our oldest settle into second grade, the feeling is one of both deep gratitude and a little bit of that natural unease that comes with big transitions. We did it—mission accomplished in so many ways—but it definitely wasn’t all smooth sailing. It was full of unexpected twists, tough moments, and beautiful wins that didn’t always look the way we imagined.

Now, as our kids step into their own little worlds, it’s our time to reinvent and redefine what the next decade looks like for us. And I know so many of you might be in your own version of that shift—letting go of what was, celebrating the goals you’ve met, and allowing yourself to dream up a new vision.

So if you’re in that space of feeling the ground shift a bit under your feet, know that it’s okay to pause, recalibrate, and reimagine what success looks like from here.

Here’s to embracing that next season of life with a bit of courage, creativity, and maybe even a Thursday morning zoo trip or two in a whole new way.

Thanks for being on this journey with us. taken in Columbus, Ohio by @phil_franks
