I’ve a proper soft spot for Edinburgh & @edbookfest - when I was a bookseller, twenty-something years ago, I got sent up to work in the festival book tent with the glorious @catrionascott17 , so to be back again for schools day was special.
It’s a wonderful thing they do: filling the tent with over 200 students and gifting every one of them a book. Thank you for letting me be part of it and to @simonkidsuk for getting me up there. by @philearle

Finn’s Epic Fails: Downhill From Here is every bit as funny as the first book… and possibly even more chaotic! I absolutely loved the first adventure, so I couldn’t wait to dive into this one. My eldest has already read it several times and it’s had him chuckling away! The opening chapter sets the tone perfectly. Imagine flying down a water slide, only for everything to go spectacularly wrong. Finn’s shorts somehow detach themselves mid-flight, leaving him desperately trying to preserve his dignity while they float twenty metres above him like the world’s most useless parachute.

The holiday only gets more ridiculous from there, with cringe worthy moments, hilarious escapades, a hotel where rats are treated like VIPs and an unforgettable karaoke session involving the Mothership, Dad and, of course, Gran! Beneath all the laughs, there’s a brilliant story about picking yourself back up and wondering whether epic fails can eventually become epic wins. Packed with humour, a touch of cringe and plenty of embarrassing moments, this is a fantastic choice for confident readers aged 9 to 10+ who love books that have them laughing out loud.

Today is a good day, as I finished a first complete draft of what will be book number 32 (I think).
It started, as per usual, in random fashion, with something simple, in this case a photograph, of an Indian Elephant, pulling steel through the streets of Sheffield during WW1, when horses had been requisitioned by the government.
It started me thinking; about circuses, and brotherhood, about fires and tragedies, about scars and how we wear them. I wrote it for a pal who will never get to read it.

It’s been quite a long time cooking, this one, but it exists, finally, ready to be licked into shape as only my editor, Charlie can.
It has a magnificent cover which I can’t show off yet, but it does have a title - ALL THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD.
It’ll be published in June 2027, by @andersenpress , if we haven’t all melted by then.
I’m really excited to get out into schools to talk about it… by @philearle

I honestly don’t think I could’ve coped with seeing it on imax. But it is everything everyone is saying about it.
Great performances, looked incredible, the sound blows your head off, and I will NEVER forget the pig scene…
It builds and builds and builds until it felt almost relentless.
Beautiful storytelling. by @philearle

On tour today, me and my pal Amy from @thebookstop.hx melted our way around 3 schools in Calderdale to talk EPIC FAILS.
Amy and Grant work incredibly hard with schools all over the area, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity today.
Now I intend to sleep until final school events next Thursday!! by @philearle
