Hi! A summer of curating continues; I’m very happy to be promoting a group exhibition i’ve put together at @mkg127 opening this Saturday, July 11th, 2PM - 5PM. Featuring a slate of artists i’ve admired from afar for a very long time 💜 @cwynars @brubeyhu @max.the.maximalist @micahlexier @wispwist @ginette.legare.547 It runs till August 22nd!MKG127 was among the first spaces a wide-eyed high school Pip first visited while venturing into the world of contemporary art, so this is super exciting for me. I’ll take a full circle moment anywhere i can get it ;)This one’s abt sourcing memories and objects from the index of daily life, reorienting the everyday logic of the material world towards expressive new directions, and playfully sorting and re-arranging the familiar with wonder, introspection, curiosity, and pleasure.See you there! 👀Peep this beautiful install by @max.the.maximalist by @philip.ocampo

From observing that students were understandably a little shy about public readings during last month’s UTSC class activity, I designed this small laminated version that the students could take home an use in private! One side explains the 12 symbols i painted and the reverse explains the 12 images the students submitted. Insp by Chinese zodiac placemats in restaurants. Not peddling wares! 🎉 Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Philip Leonard Ocampo, who is joining the MacLaren as Associate Curator on a part-time contract basis through April 2027. We are excited to work with Philip as he brings a new exhibition to life at Gallery, opening during our Winter 2026-27 season. 🎉🏛️ Philip Leonard Ocampo is a queer Filipino curator-artist based in Toronto, Canada. He holds a BFA in Integrated Media (DPXA) from OCAD University (2018) and is one of the four founding co-directors of Hearth, an artist-run collective and DIY art space based in the city. 🏛️ Ocampo has curated projects for art spaces such as The Visual Arts Centre of Clarington, Xpace Cultural Centre, InterAccess, Trinity Square Video, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Hearth, and the plumb, etc. Ocampo currently serves on the Board of Directors at Mercer Union, a centre for contemporary art, in Toronto, Canada. Here’s some more detail shots of “Hymn”, a new work currently on view at Mark Christopher Gallery! Part of “Sunlight in a Deep Forest” curated by Asia Ruggiero. It ends on the 17th! Pay this sweet show a visit this week if you are able. @bbglowball @mark_christopher_gallery For those who have been asking, the song codified across the work is “Faithfully” by Journey. A song that reminds me of my mom and dad, and can make me cry on cue. Not only is karaoke a fixture in Filipino culture, but I also grew up as a classically trained singer, so this work hits home in many of ways. Artmaking as a means to grasp at all that is really a gift. 🙂 by @philip.ocampo
