The title of the work is taken from a poem by the poet and artist Eugéne Sundelius von Rosen.
“s o f t w a r e” is a new choreographic work by Philip Berlin, created together with Stockholm 59°North - dancers from The Royal Swedish Ballet.

The piece unfolds as the work of the dancers aim to move swiftly, light and expand; every impulse changes direction.
Energy collects from postpunk extreme precision, raw hypnotic repetition and ecstatic transgression.
But what happens when the glitch moves into the body?!

Philip Berlin is based in Stockholm, works with dance in Sweden and internationally.
He has presented his works at Dansens Hus in Stockholm, the Opera House in Oslo, MDT - Modern Dance Theater and Moderna Museet.
Berlin also collaborates with director Ada Berger as a choreographer and has created choreography for the completely sold-out Orosdanser at Stockholm City Theater and Liv och död av Strömquist at Dramaten.
Berlin has also collaborated artistically with Cristina Caprioli on a recurring basis.

Le Scénario for this year’s Summer Dance embraces the climax as a state of being: the high jumps, the vibrating excess, the sparkle in the eye. Here, Swedish choreographer @philipberlin celebrates raw post-punk and extravagance, with references to, among others, one of the 20th century’s most influential choreographers, Merce Cunningham.

COPENHAGEN PREMIERE OF DANSK DANSETEATERS SUMMER DANCE TONIGHT IN FRONT OF THE ROYAL DANISH OPERA HOUSE!🩷💛

This year’s Summer Dance performance is Le Scénario with the 10 dancers of Danish Dance Theatre and choreography by Swedish choreographer Philip Berlin @philipberlin, a compelling new voice in Nordic contemporary dance. The work brings together the rigorous architecture and spatial thinking of the iconic choreographer Merce Cunningham with the energy and aesthetics of post-punk culture. Precise and disciplined, playful and wild.

Tonight also marks the opening of @yesdancebiennale. yes – dance biennale is a new, large-scale and ambitious dance biennale taking place for the first time in Copenhagen.

The admission to Summer Dance is free. All reservations are sold out, but we offer a free ticket queue for all performances with 50-100 seats avaliable.

SUMMER DANCE IN COPENHAGEN RETURNS IN AUGUST ☀
Danish Dance Theatre’s much-loved summer highlight, Dansk Danseteaters Summer Dance, returns from 26–30 August 2026 – this year in a spectacular new waterfront setting in front of the Royal Danish Opera House.

For five evenings, the harbour front will be transformed into an open-air stage of exceptional beauty.

This year’s programme features Le Scénario by the Swedish choreographer @philipberlin, performed by the ten dancers of Danish Dance Theatre. Renowned for his distinctive choreographic voice, Berlin creates work that is both athletic and exuberant, combining precision, power, and an infectious sense of joy.

Summer Dance is an invitation to the city: five days of world-class dance, workshops, and shared experiences by the harbourfront, where art, architecture, and urban life meet🩷💛.

These classes are in collaboration with Danish Dance Theatre, whom as part of YES – dance biennale will be presenting the performance Le Scénario, by the internationally acclaimed choreographer Philip Berlin.⁠
Philip Berlin is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Scandinavian dance. ⁠
The class is structured around a series of exercises aimed at activating the body’s connective tissue (fascia), followed by a range of movement material that enables rapid transitions through complex overlapping patterns. This is explored particularly in relation to shifts of weight, and the work of the legs in interplay with the pelvis and spine moving through space, especially through jumping.⁠
