Confidence, purpose and presence.

On September 9th at SAPA, our queen, Philisa Eligon, delivered a powerful Self Expression performance and secured first place in the category.

We are incredibly proud of the confidence, authenticity and dedication she brought to the stage. Congratulations, Philisa. You represented Eh Bien Oui Don Don with excellence.

Part One.

I entered my first pageant knowing it would challenge me, but I did not expect how deeply it would force me to confront myself. There were many moments when I questioned whether I had the confidence, talent and strength to see it through.

Talent became one of my greatest struggles. Although I have danced, played steelpan and spent much of my life within the arts, I had never fully embraced myself as an artist. Preparing a piece centred around self love became a lesson I also needed to learn for myself.

As the final night for Talent and Self Expression approached, I became quite ill. My voice became affected, I was tired and my body was drained. I feared that after all my hard work, I would not be able to speak properly or give my best during a dance that had already challenged me so much. Still, I pushed through.

Along the way, I also formed genuine relationships with the other queens in such a short space of time. Even while I was ill during the retreat, these girls showed up for me, and that kindness is something I will always remember.

Watching these moments now, I am truly proud of myself. Placing first in Self Expression and making the top five in Talent felt deeply personal because those were the areas in which I questioned myself the most. To complete my first pageant and leave as a runner up means so much, but the greatest reward was discovering a version of myself that was always there.❤️ by @philisaaa
