STARBUCKS ULP STRIKE DAY 13: Starbucks workers can’t fight the world’s second largest fast food company on an empty stomach. That’s why Philly DSA is cooking hot lunches for striking baristas 5 days a week to sustain the strike as long as it takes. DSA members and Starbucks workers together in the kitchen have already served hundreds of meals to the strikers, providing a communal space to keep up the morale and build bonds of solidarity. If you want to support the workers, stop buying coffee at Starbucks, delete the app off your phone. Today is Mandela Day. Philadelphia gave him a medal for fighting apartheid. He used the speech to tell us ours wasn't finished either.July 4, 1993. Independence Hall, twenty minutes from Delco. He read Frederick Douglass out loud: "This Fourth of July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice; I must mourn."The promise was written here. It was never kept for everyone. Saying so is not an attack on it. It is the only way anyone has ever kept it. Four years later he told us the rest: "We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians."On July 4 the Declaration turned 250. DSA spent that day with the Spirit of Mandela coalition, mobilizing against genocide. Eleven days later Congress voted 314 to 104 to keep paying for it. That is not a broken system.
