“I Wonder”

I wonder what their world is about and if they see the beauty all around them.

Surrounded by a world painted in the brilliant colors of autumn, quietly on a bench, seemingly unaware of the beauty unfolding around them. They said very few words in my time there.

Were they lovers, sharing dreams of a future together? Old friends, reminiscing about a past they could never revisit? Perhaps a brother and sister, finding comfort in one another during a difficult time. Or maybe two people sharing a secret the rest of the world would never know.

Was this a moment of happiness? Of heartbreak? A beginning, or perhaps a goodbye?

I wonder if they noticed the reflected light reflecting across the water. If they appreciated the fiery colors of the trees, or if whatever words passed between them made the magnificent scenery seem insignificant.

What struck me most was the contrast of the photo and life’s possibilities. Behind them shadows, but ahead, a world so vibrant, so full of life and color.

Two silhouettes, their expressions hidden, their story untold.

I captured the beauty of the moment, but it was the mystery that stayed with me.

Because every person we pass has a story we may never know. Every quiet conversation carries a world of emotions invisible to those around it.

And sometimes, the most beautiful part of a photograph isn’t what it shows us.

It’s what it leaves us wondering. by @phinnsphun

SP50 Mile 15
“Brad, why do you trail run?” by @phinnsphun

Kilo.
In two weeks she’ll be 13.
She doesn’t run very fast anymore.
Walks have been limited to about a mile.
Squirrels and bunnies are now safe.
It’s a bummer watching a pup grow old.
A month ago the Vet let us know she has a pretty large brain tumor that will take her quicker than we want. I hope he’s wrong and this isn’t her last October.

Summer Days Have Come To An End…..
How many summers do you think you have left?
Thinking like that makes me wanna plan a big one next year.
Memento Mor; by @phinnsphun

Been taking some pictures to clear my head, slow things down to a literal stop, and find inner peace. I guess birdwatching is next.
I Figure I’ll post the ones I like each day.

Oh the places you will see…

5 years ago I was wasting my life away. Like many, I would spend my days listening to the news on repeat about how terrible the world was. I believed I was a cog in a wheel of mediocrity. I was a victim of my trauma and life’s choices.

My daughters 2 year old eyes and the unconditional love from my wife made me want to change.

1 small change led to another small change. Self doubt slowly became self belief. Sobriety cleared my mind, controlled my suffering, and brought light to my life.

Now I see the world for the moment I am standing in, the people I stand there with, and the path I want to carve for others to follow. I am not a victim.

Our actions are votes for the person we want to become.

This past weekend I ran through the Bighorn mountain range miles from others sipping cold mountain streams. I talked to bison in Yellowstone National Park. Climbed high desert peaks in Utah. Sat in awe of the Teton Mountain range and ate over priced pizza in Jackson Hole.

All I could think about was how lucky I am and all the reasons I shouldnt have been there. But I was. And I was because I made choices and sacrifices to put me there. Most importantly, I surrounded myself with people who believed that I should be.

That made me believe in myself.

I hope the same for you!
Keep ‘er Lit! by @phinnsphun

I’ve seen enough beauty in the past 2 years to last a lifetime. And I’ve done it with the clarity of sobriety.

Here I stand alone with a small local monument atop Mt Pisgah in Eugene OR. The trail rises a little over 1,000 ft over the course of a mile.

It was my mentors birthday and we figured why not get the crew today and run up and down it as many times as we can from sunrise to sunset.

Silly to most. Life changing to me.

I left that last summit at sunset a changed man.

More beauty awaits.

Go find yours! by @phinnsphun

Here We Go Again!
Why Brad? Why?
100 Miles in the blazing 100 plus degree relentless sun. Sunrise to Sunset and Sunrise again. Hours of pain. Little food. Less water. For a silly beltbuckle!

Becuase one day, possibly soon, I will dream and beg for this time I am living in now. A time I was younger and healthier. A time when my back wasn’t sore and my knees and hips didn’t hurt.
Ultramarathon is the ultimate soul searcher. You are alone with your mind in your weakest times. You mind tries to break you! You feel genuine fear which sharpens the senses.
And don’t get me wrong, it sucks a lot of the time. Fuck does it hurt. My feet are mangled. My Quads hate stairs. But that is still less pain than my mom felt. She was taken at 50 years old! 50! I’m only 7 years away from that. My blisters are the size of a foot, but are they are bad as the countless surgery’s my father had to feel battling many different cancers or knowing he would never see his grandkids grow older.
As I walked alone 75 miles in at 3am through the desert in the pitch black with the stars overhead I am forced to search for the happiest times of my life and push aside petty bullshit that seems to consume my day.
Granted, some may find this perspective in other ways. This is my way. It forces me to lean on others because I could not do this alone.
As I take a few days to reflect I will feel more alive than ever! Soon, the days will get short. The nights will get long. Others will take life for granted and make excuses. I will continue to use my body. Use my health. Use my fitness. Find freedom in a clear mind. Memento Mori. Find something that brings light to the darkest parts of you👊🏻 by @phinnsphun
