"Kalian udah gak homeschool lagi?"
"Sedih gak ci anak-anak udah gede?"
Banyak banget pertanyaan seperti ini sejak kami cerita tentang anak-anak.

Jawabannya: iya dan enggak.

Setelah 7 tahun homeschooling, tahun ini kami memutuskan untuk berhenti. Atau mungkin lebih tepatnya... take a break? Who knows. 😊

Sejak N1 di kelas 5, kami sudah memulai percakapan ttg SMP. Awalnya dia bilang mau tetap homeschool tp suatu hari suatu hari bilang kalau dia ingin mencoba sekolah "yang tiap hari ketemu teman." Jadi kami mulai mengeksplor beberapa pilihan, berdoa, berdiskusi, dan akhirnya memutuskan sekolah ini adalah tempat yang tepat untuk langkah berikutnya.

Sementara itu, N2 sebenarnya belum ingin masuk sekolah formal. Tapi setelah mempertimbangkan banyak hal, kami merasa ini juga saat yang baik baginya untuk memulai perjalanan yang baru.

Looking back, I'm so grateful for these past seven years. I have no regrets about homeschooling them. If I could turn back time, I would choose it all over again in a heartbeat.

We've shared countless moments of wonder, laughter, frustration, tears, victories, and failures. The flexibility to travel in low season that enabled us to stay longer in various countries. By God's grace, we didn't just teach our children—we grew up together. We learned alongside one another, and we found so much joy in each other's company.

But education has never been confined to a curriculum or a place. It is a lifelong journey.

So while our children now attend a formal school, this isn't the end of our homeschooling story. It simply looks different. We may have fewer hours together each day, but our calling remains the same: to disciple them, to walk alongside them, and to keep pointing them to Christ in the everyday moments we've been given.

Homeschooling was never just about learning at home. It has always been about raising hearts. And that part never ends.

Cheers to a new season. Different, unfamiliar, and perhaps a little bittersweet—but one we entrust completely into God's hands.

School Song from Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical.

That one trip to watch @thersc in Shanghai sparked the idea for this duet. The kids kept singing Matilda songs on repeat and even chose this high-energy number themselves—an upgraded version of the alphabet song, as they like to call it.
(Those who knew N1 as a toddler know how much he loved singing the ABC song)

A huge thank you to Miss @evi.yullianty for pouring so much energy into training them every week (literally almost all of it! 😂). You're the best, and we appreciate you so much. 🫶🏻

I'm one happy mom knowing my kids share my love for musical theatre songs!

Shanghai 上海. Surprised to find that our airbnb was 5 mins walk from Jing'an Park that was filled with tulips and cherry blossoms. I shed tears of happiness because I didn't expect to see that much cherry blossoms in mid March.

Took the kids to watch @matildathemusical at @shanghai_grand_theatre (Phodi opted out 'cos he thought it's a local production 😌 while in fact it's a @thersc production). It was fantastic! Kudos to the girl who acted Matilda brilliantly and we totally loved when the ensemble sang Revolting Children.

While in Shanghai, daily xiaolongbao intake is a must. N1 loved the crab roe version. He ate baskets of baos which reminded me of Po in Kungfu Panda. We also tried the famous Fei Da Chu 费大厨 and it turned out to be the most delicious lunch we had in Shanghai. Milk tea and yoghurt drinks were also part of the diet. They're too tasty to skip!

But big cities are similar anywhere. Big brands shops, insta famous shops, famous coffee spots, viral bakeries (delicious breads tho!) and big crowd. They can feel boring and repetitive. My sweet spot is always a late night walk in a quieter suburb, where we can enjoy the city feel without the crowd.

Fenghuang 凤凰 and Furong 芙蓉, 2 ancient towns, 2 hours apart by car. We chose to stay overnight in Fenghuang and loved it. Nice ancient town, very pretty at day and night time, very much alive until late night but can't imagine how crazy it would be during high season because some of the streets were narrow.

We tasted the freshest and sweetest (and cheapest) strawberries ever (those yummy but expensive korean strawberries can bid goodbye). N1 voted crossing the river through stepping stones as his most memorable moment. N2 dressed up as a Miao girl, one of China's indigenous ethnics. The Miaos are famous for their silver and hence, the many silver accessories in their costume.

The next day we went to Furong, home of Tujia people. Famous for its waterfalls, the town was somewhat underwhelming. Surely it would be prettier at night being all dressed in colorful lights but the town's size and lack of attractions make it less appealing tha Fenghuang. We walked from quite far, all the way through behind the waterfalls and into the ancient town. History noted that the ancestors of Tujia people lived inside caves behind the waterfalls and talked in a language similar to animals.

Fun fact: Zhangjiajie and its surrounding (including Fenghuang and Furong) are producers of cannola oil. In early spring they bloom, ready for production. We saw lots of pretty golden fields during our 5 days trip around the area. by @phodi

Wulong Karst and Fairy Mountain on a day trip from Chongqing. A long ride, a long walk. N1 clocked in 22.915 steps on his watch.

China and its imaginative narrative make things far more interesting than it seems. The place is incredible but China has many of these karsts.

"Look, three natural bridges!" (Other places have natural bridges too and they name it differently - I'll tell you later)

"Look, a gorilla shaped rock!" (Photo #4)

"Now act like you're holding a torch!" (Photo #9)

The most notable attraction here is their famous cliff hanging-rotating-double decked elevator 👏👏 which thankfully, 0 queue for us (also in other places because we arrived in the 1st week after lunar new year holiday)

We also experienced our coldest morning of our trip at Fairy Mountain (3*C). The driver was busy reminding our children to put their beanies on. The foggy morning gave a mystical feel (maybe the fairies were real!). As the weather cleared up, we saw more of the meadows. While it was very pretty, I remember clearly that that morning, I was thankful to live in the tropic. As much as I love cold air, dealing with foggy cold mornings for half of the year would be too much.

Oh, the toilets here were clean with tissues and warm tap water. We didn't encounter any nasties during our trip. Not all was sparkling clean but after the trauma I had years ago with China's toilets, this trip has been healing 😬

Chongqing 重庆 . Thought it was overhyped but it was really cool. Incredible nightview, ancient towns, endless highways, bridges, tunnels, and buildings higher than your dreams.

Due to its hilly terrain, you'll find taller buildings wherever you look. Every turn, you'll see more high rises building light up in pretty colors. It's amazing to know that massive development of the city didn't happen until 1997. In less than 30 years it has become an 8D cyberpunk city.

The theme for 2025 is Surrender. It's trully a year full of learning on actively surrendering everything. The year that makes me remember again that everything is all belong and only by the grace of God.

13 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 10 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. 1 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆.

Reflecting on the last 13 years serving and leading regionally across South East Asia, my heart is full. What began in Australia 🇦🇺 & Indonesia 🇮🇩 expanded into an incredible chapter in Myanmar 🇲🇲, the Philippines 🇵🇭, Thailand 🇹🇭, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Laos 🇱🇦, Vietnam 🇻🇳, Malaysia 🇲🇾, and Brunei 🇧🇳.

It has been a humbling and fulfilling journey walking alongside the people of @cvglobal_ in Asia Pacific and beyond. I’ve been blessed to witness the fruit of our collective efforts — reaching people, activating Christians, and partnering with churches.

Yet, my greatest privilege has been the people. It has been a joy to see each team member learn and grow — not just through projects, but through the many seasons we’ve shared together.

I want to honor all my colleagues, friends, families, leaders, and partners who have walked this road with me. You have my deepest respect.

All in all, we are here because of the grace of God ✝️ that has included us in His work.

It’s time for another New Season. I am excited to serve in a different capacity within CV moving forward.

Grateful for a day of learning and reconnecting with these wonderful leaders and friends from our Manila days.

About 5 yrs ago, we lived in Manila to develop @yesheisph in partnership with @ccfmain
That period was a season where we learnt many things that become the foundations of our family. by @phodi
