I don’t care what anyone thinks they know about me.
You do not know me or my lived experience.

I am #multiracial.
Yes, my DNA includes different backgrounds.
No, that does not define how I was treated or who I am.

Growing up, I was labeled and treated as a #BlackAmerican, especially when it came to bullying, discrimination, and how society decided to read me. That experience is real, and it matters more than percentages on a DNA test.

I don’t feel a cultural connection to white or Mexican identity because, historically and personally, those groups were often the ones spewing hatred toward me or my people. And before y’all get sensitive, let me be clear: I absolutely have white and Mexican people I fuck with. This is about systems and lived experience, not individual friendships.

I’m aware I’m #ethnicallyambiguous, but that does not make me a guessing game. The “hola” shit is tired and irritating. 😒

And since it’s Black History Month, let’s add some context:
There have always been free people of color, Creoles, mixed Black communities, and white-passing Black folks who were still part of Black history. Some passed to survive. Some were forced into categories they didn’t choose. Some lived in between worlds but were still impacted by anti-Black racism. That history is Black history too.

So yes, Happy Black History Month to all the ancestors.
The visibly Black, the mixed, the Creole, the ambiguous, the white-passing.
If racism touched them because of Blackness, they belong in this history.

Mixed does not mean confused.
Ambiguous does not mean available for assumptions.

Respect how people identify themselves and keep it moving. #mixedgirlcheck #BlackHistoryMonth by @phoenixxforged
