🌪️ TORNADO is now on Mixcloud.

This episode begins with the giddy possibility of falling in love, then moves through the history, defences and grief we carry with us. There’s joy in it, and there’s an emotional floor.

At its heart, Tornado is about acceptance. Life can lift us up and drop us without warning. I’m learning to find a little peace in the eye of the storm, and to be present for the beautiful moments while they’re here.

The cover artwork is an acrylic painting by me. It felt right to put something I’d made alongside a show this personal.

Colosseum were one of the first bands to blues, rock and jazz-based improvisation, and they did it in a truly explosive way, somehow managing to combine complex instrumental passages with passionately wild vocals resulting in exhilarating live performances. Colosseum came to fame in 1969 when the band led by legendary drummer Jon Hiseman released its debut album Those Who Are About To Die Salute You. Best-selling studio albums followed, notably Valentyne Suite (1969) and The Daughter of Time is Truth (1970).

This is one of only 12 UK dates and is a fundraiser for your favourite community radio station, Phonic FM. Tickets £28. Booking via Exeter Phoenix web site. Support is from The Honey Pot. taken in Exeter Phoenix by @phonic.fm

After a remarkable 18 years, this week David Treharne stands down as Chair of Exeter Community Radio Ltd (that’s us, Phonic FM). Dave will continue on the Board to ensure a smooth transition to the new Chair, and of course will still be presenting The Edge of Jazz every Tuesday at 2pm. by @phonic.fm

Here ya go! It's the Phonic Fest 2023 auditorium line up.

Go see a bunch of brilliant artists from around the South West and help support Phonic FM, Exeter's totally independent community radio station!

Last year almost everyone bought a ticket on the door - which was great - but if you can buy a ticket in advance you'll be saving me a lot of stress, and you'll be saving yourself a couple of quid. £10 advance or £12 on the door.

Still to come: acoustic and DJ line up, outside on the terrace in the sunshine (or inside if raining... but we've decided it won't rain).

See you on August 5th! taken in Exeter Phoenix by @phonic.fm
