POSTS STORIES REELS

What do the two movies we’re screening Friday (Gabby and Eleanor Go Up and Down the Mountain + Trans Panic!) have in common? Along with being two diaristic stories about people filming their friends on the cheapest cameras they can get their hands on, they also have incredible soundtracks. Each filmmaker has lots of music that I recommend just as much as their movies.

Check out some of @itmegrenbee performances on YouTube and listen to @gabbykhg and @arealwormanactualworm collaborative AND solo work on Bandcamp!

COME WATCH THE MOVIES! Friday, October 23rd, 7PM at @rocking_s_art_ranch $8 Tix at the door by @phosphenecinema

NEXT FRIDAY!!! OCTOBER 23RD 7PM AT @rocking_s_art_ranch $8 TIX AT THE DOOR!

I cannot emphasize enough how hilarious this movie is. And an interview with director @itmegrenbee will be out before the end of the week! by @phosphenecinema

!!!!ONE WEEK AWAY!!!! $8 tix at the door

“Lou and Noodles are consumers. Adrift and empty, they are separate from each other and from the world. Ruled by desire and un controllable drives to excess, they spend their solitary hours in spaces both real and unreal. Occasionally, they are in the same part of the mall.

A deeply personal evocation of the alienation of consumer spaces and the loneliness that late capitalism both creates and feeds on, MALLS is a lament for a culture that is most alive in its doomed attempts to escape itself. Drawing equal inspiration from Tsai Ming-liang, the early work of John Waters, and the inevitable online brain-rot of its young creators, the film is a micro-budget testament to making your own fun in a world of fading possibility.”

This movie has been with me every day since I first watched it, a perfect inaugural film for Phosphene Cinema’s first screening at @rocking_s_art_ranch
Got to say, @juicemoviejuice killed it with this trailer by @phosphenecinema

October 23rd, 7PM at @rocking_s_art_ranch come watch two movies about girls filming their friends with video cameras.

TRANS PANIC (dir. Gren Bee, 94min.)

“A Christian fundamentalist trans hyperpop musician on a love quest for the heart of vice president JD Vance teams up with an intersex incel filmmaker who’s madly in love with her on a performative terrorist attack to establish themselves as martyrs for the alt-right while using the publicity to launch their respective music and film careers. Trans panic asks questions like: What if your intersectionality intersected with shit that was evil and made you suck a lot?”

The funniest movie I’ve seen all year. Basically trans Connor O’Malley if he was bolder with his structuralist impulses. In other words, exactly my kind of shit.

GABBY AND ELEANOR GO UP AND DOWN THE MOUNTAIN (dir. Gabby Khangyi and Eleanor Abrahams, 17 min.)

“2 girls have a bicycle adventure in beautiful Hamilton”

If you loved our Josephine Massarella screening, you will love this landscape/hangout/biking beauty. Incredibly sweet and a new go to comfort movie with a mesmerizing soundtrack.

$8 TIX at the door! by @phosphenecinema

UNDER TWO WEEKS AWAY! Phosphene Cinema’s first screening at @rocking_s_art_ranch is an international showcase, two movies about the paralyzing alienation of… The Mall!

Cumberland Terrace (dir. Mark Hanson, 18 min.)
“The final (?) days of the Cumberland Terrace mall in Toronto’s central Yorkville neighbourhood, originally built in 1974 and announced in 2025 as being scheduled for closure/demolition.”

If you loved Memoriam, the short we played before Divine Hammer, then you will definitely fall in love with this.

Malls (dir. Daniel Tune, 60 min.)
“A deeply personal evocation of the alienation of consumer spaces and the loneliness that late capitalism both creates and feeds on, MALLS is a lament for a culture that is most alive in its doomed attempts to escape itself. Drawing equal inspiration from Tsai Ming-liang, the early work of John Waters, and the inevitable online brain-rot of its young creators, the film is a micro-budget testament to making your own fun in a world of fading possibility.”

Easily one of my favorites of the year, so grateful that @juicemoviejuice shared this movie with me and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. Have thought about this every day since my first watch.

Friday, October 16th, $8 tix available at the door!

Next month we’re celebrating Halloween with my favorite romance movie of all time, Tetsuo: The Iron Man. An essential film of Japanese 80s independent cinema, the debut feature (Denchu-Zozo is damn close though!) of one of the greatest living filmmakers, Shinya Tsukamoto. Famous for its impossibly intricate stop motion effects, legendary industrial soundtrack by Chu Ishikawa, frenetic camerawork, and for turning me trans.

Since this is such a short feature, I’m programming some horror shorts to fill out the night. If you want your movie screened with this classic, DM this account.

A night for all the practical effects junkies, gore whores, and metal fetishists out there.

“Our love can destroy this whole fucking world.”

I already know I’m going to cry at this. by @phosphenecinema

LOS VIDEO NASTIES comes to Mesa, Arizona Sunday the 13th!!! Come catch the touring winners from the @la_casa_norte film festival and vote on our audience favorites. Tix in bio by @phosphenecinema

3 WEEKS AWAY! The Los Video Nasties Tour with @la_casa_norte comes to Mesa, Arizona! This is the second film festival I’ve had the privilege to work with, a screening that has been MONTHS in the making so I can confidently say it’s my most anticipated event this year. Come watch some independent film and vote for a crowd favorite! More to be announced as the day gets closer, but mark it on your calendar now!

ABOUT LA CASA NORTE
La Casa Norte is an independent cultural collective originating from Tijuana, Baja California,
created and initially sustained through the direct effort and self-financing of two siblings
interested in building alternative spaces for cinema, art, and emerging expression outside of
institutional dynamics traditionally limiting for many independent cultural projects. by @phosphenecinema

Filmmaker Henry Hanson (@degeneracy_now ) talk about his recent feature Puppygirl in an interview now up on YouTube! Link in bio!

Arizona screening of Puppygirl is Sunday the 30th at @bridgeimprovtheater ! You don’t want to miss it! by @phosphenecinema

2 WEEKS AWAY! Henry Hanson’s (@degeneracy_now ) first feature Dog Movie was one of my earliest screenings from over a year ago and I couldn’t be more excited to show their follow up fetish documentary, Puppygirl! Henry has been a big inspiration for me both as a filmmaker and programmer (I also screened his short film anthology, Cyberslime last year) that first screening and following Q&A were very important for me and I’m looking forward to showing more people his work and getting to interview him again (video interview will be out before the 30th)

Easily one of the wildest things I’ve shown. Have a feeling this could make or break some relationships in the crowd. Tix in bio now! by @phosphenecinema
