And the winner of our Evidence of Human Life, but No People Visible contest is... Ana Thessing. 👏

This image stopped us in our tracks. A worn mattress on the street, a pair of jeans, a pillow, and a small teddy bear against a crumbling wall. No person in sight, yet the humanity here is overwhelming.

Here is what judge ReynaSojen had to say:

“There are photographs you understand immediately, and photographs that make you linger because you desperately want to know the rest of the story. This was the latter for me. The small tenderness of the teddy bear against such a harsh setting gives the image its emotional gravity. You understood that absence can be more powerful than presence, and long after viewing it, I was still wondering about the person whose life had left these traces behind.”

Incredible work, Ana. ⭐

🏆 Congratulations to KobusMalan, the winner of our Wildlife Hides contest!

This incredible shot, captured from inside a wildlife hide, gives us a perspective that feels almost impossibly close to nature. Just look at those zebras. 📷

Here is what judge AlexanderTheHighlander had to say about the winning image:

“Great picture from inside a wildlife hide looking out. And being that close to Zebras must have been amazing! This contest was for pictures of wildlife hides and this hits the breif. The fact you have animals in your picture is a bonus.”

A brilliant entry that perfectly captures the magic of being hidden in plain sight. Well done, KobusMalan. 👏 Keep sharing your incredible work with the Photocrowd community.

🏆 Congratulations to Karen Cotter, winner of our Red Fruit (in colour) contest!

Karen’s stunning basket of apples caught the eye of our judge for all the right reasons. There is something about this shot that feels genuinely irresistible, warm, and alive. The rich reds against the lush green backdrop create a harmony that is both striking and perfectly considered.

Here is what judge rhlantz had to say:

“This lovely basket of apples is so warm and welcoming. A soft and beckoning invitation to picnic. I appreciated the tone emphasis. Deepening the complimentary colors, red and green, was an excellent choice to portray a message. Congrats on your placement!”

This is exactly the kind of image that reminds us why we love photography. 📷 Well done, Karen. Truly a deserving winner. ⭐

We have a winner! 🏆

Congratulations to Joanna, whose gorgeous portrait of a young calf has taken first place in our Young Cattle contest. 📷

Just look at that face. Joanna dropped down to eye-level to capture this shot, and the result speaks for itself. Perfect symmetry, those magnificent ears, and a white star marking that draws you straight in. It’s the kind of image that stops you mid-scroll.

Here is what judge Maren had to say:

“This is a wonderful choice of subject fitting the brief perfectly. I love how you dropped down to eye-level with the calf, as it effectively connects the viewer to the photo immediately. Beautiful symmetry is created using the calf’s big ears, and white spot as a focal point. If I were looking at ways to refine the photo, a tighter crop on the left side might benefit it. Additionally, it would have been interesting to see a more shallow DoF to help soften the textured wall background. Overall, this is a genuinely charming portrait that captures a wonderful moment. Beautifully done!”

Well done, Joanna. A truly deserving winner. 👏

Congratulations to Nigel W, winner of our Performing contest! 🏆

This stunning shot stopped our judge Tracy Calder in her tracks, and it’s easy to see why. Through a masterful use of long exposure, Nigel has created something truly special, capturing not just a moment but an entire performance within a single frame.

Here’s what Tracy had to say:

“Combining multiple images has resulted in a picture that’s full of movement and rich in storytelling. Our eyes follow the graceful lines of the dancer’s arms, but her gaze helps to anchor us. A shutter speed of 1/20sec has provided the perfect amount of blur. The neutral backdrop complements the shade of the dress perfectly. It’s a great shot.”

A well-deserved win, Nigel. 👏

This is exactly the kind of work that inspires us every day here at Photocrowd. Whether you shoot dance, sport, or any kind of live performance, our expert-judged contests are the place to get your work seen and recognised.

We have a winner! 🏆

Congratulations to PatrickC, whose stunning entry to our Landscapes from the Deck of a Ship contest has taken the top spot.

Our expert judge gudrunberry had this to say about the winning shot:

“That’s such a great shot. You certainly were at the right place at the right time, and by including a small part of the boat in the photo, you have given it some depth and perspective. It shows how close you were to the sailing boat and what a small turn it took around the needles. Very good composition, clear focus and crisp colours. Congratulations to being my winner.”

What a capture. 📷 Right place, right time, and the skill to make it count. That is what Photocrowd is all about. Being part of a community that sees your work, celebrates it, and helps you grow. Well done, PatrickC. 👏

We have a winner. 🏆

Congratulations to @trevcole whose stunning street shot has taken the top spot in our latest expert-judged Street Photography contest. The brief asked for candid imagery that captures people going about their daily lives, and this image delivers exactly that with quiet, brilliant precision.

Here’s what judge @soulrebelphotographer had to say:

“Super congratulations on the winning image. This was a hugely competitive competition. The brief was ‘people going about their daily lives’ and was about creating ‘fascinating, candid imagery that will make us think, make us laugh, and will wow us with your ability to capture this chaotic world within the frame of an image’. The story within this frame is undeniably strong and very candid. The reality of the 2 phones situation within a relationship or marriage is so real. The colour palette is fantastic. It feels as if you really did just happen across this scenario in real life. The postures tell the emotion of the characters in frame. It really is a fantastic and very real image. Huge congratulations and very well done.”

A truly deserving winner. Well done, @trevcole 👏

We have a winner! 🏆

Congratulations to Eelco van Roden, whose stunning entry has taken the top spot in our Cats and Dogs contest, judged by the brilliant Gez Robinson. 📷

Here’s what Gez had to say about the winning shot:

“When I first viewed this image straight away I knew it was a top 3 photo. I love the strong use of negative space and my eye was instantly drawn to the dog despite it only occupying a very small amount of the frame. The dog is perfectly positioned within the frame. The photographer nailed it with the composition. A very worthy winner. Keep up the good work.”

A masterclass in composition recognised by an expert eye. 👏 Well done, Eelco. This is exactly the kind of work that inspires the whole Photocrowd community.

We have a winner. 🏆

Congratulations to @transitionsbyjohnpoon whose stunning close-up portrait took first place in our Close-Up Portraits contest, expertly judged by the brilliant @nickdavid

Here’s what the judge had to say:

“Love this! A close-up portrait that really packs a punch and is impossible to ignore. Her face is tightly framed by a mass of curly hair which adds fantastic texture to the composition. Her deep green eyes are striking and contrast beautifully with the pink eyeshadow and lipstick. The direct gaze penetrates the frame and connects immediately with the viewer. Her expression is difficult to read which I think adds to the power of this image. It has a real documentary feel and reminds me of Bruce Gilden’s street portraits from New York. The tight crop and bold use of colour make this a very memorable image. A well-deserved first place and an excellent winner!”

Incredible feedback for a truly deserving shot. 📷 Well done. 👏

And the winner of The Memory of Buildings contest is... @ukeiro 🏆

This stunning shot stopped our judge @lallalogo in their tracks, and it’s easy to see why. Architecture isn’t just stone and paint. It’s a record of the lives lived within it, and @ukeiro captures that truth beautifully.

Here’s what @lallalogo had to say:

“I chose to award this photo because it approaches the contest theme with remarkable clarity and sensitivity. It shows how architecture can hold memory not only through decay, but through the persistence of everyday life. Each balcony becomes a trace of presence and daily routine that endures through time. This is architecture as living memory: a place where the past coexists with the present, quietly but insistently. The interplay of colors, hanging laundry, and weather-worn stains forms a collective narrative, a chorus of small gestures and human rhythms. The building feels alive, breathing through its imperfections, carrying the stories of those who inhabit it.”

Congratulations, @ukeiro - A truly deserving winner. 👏

🏆 Announcing the winner of our Obelisks contest — congratulations to Miljo!

This striking shot stopped us in our tracks. Miljo has captured the sheer scale and ancient detail of an obelisk in a way that feels both dramatic and precise. The tight framing draws your eye straight to the hieroglyphics, while that moody greyscale sky makes the warm stone glow. It is the kind of image that makes you look twice, then a third time. 📷

Our judge rhlantz shared these thoughts on the winning entry:

“Great close up of an obelisk and its hieroglyphics. I appreciate the choice of including the upper angle for clarity. An excellent contrast of a beige object and shadow against a gray scale sky. Congrats on placement!”

Well deserved, Miljo. This is exactly the sort of bold, considered photography we love to celebrate here at Photocrowd. Keep entering, keep shooting, and keep inspiring the community. ⭐
