Fotografie und gesellschaftliche Entwicklung sind eng miteinander verwoben. Das zeigt die aktuelle Ausstellung F.C. GUNDLACH. YOU’LL NEVER WATCH ALONE im @buceriuskunstforum.

Durch sein vielseitiges Wirken in Mode, Kunst und Kultur prägte F.C. Gundlach (1926–2021) die visuelle Kultur seiner Zeit, wurde aber auch umgekehrt von dieser beeinflusst. Die Ausstellung zeigt dies anhand seines Schaffens und dem seiner Zeitgenoss:innen wie Richard Avedon, Nan Goldin, David Hockney und Cindy Sherman.

Einen opulenten Einblick in die Fotokultur mit reicher Illustration sowie Essays, Kurztexten und Anekdoten von Expert:innen bietet unser Begleitband zur Ausstellung, herausgegeben von Sebastian Lux und Sophie-Charlotte Opitz.

You‘ll Never Celebrate Alone! Thank you to the incredible 1001 (!) enthusiasts who came joining us for the opening of „F.C. Gundlach. You’ll Never Watch Alone“ at @buceriuskunstforum !
Two years of work and love and lots of looking and thinking and writing and talking just came to life in this exhibition on Gundlach, fashion photography, the becoming of photo culture and the passionate people within it.

Thank you to the entire team of @buceriuskunstforum (much love to you!) and @f.c.gundlach.foundation , the co-authors of the catalogue @sebastianriemer @diandradonecker @silver_iodide @kathrinyacavone @olgahohoh #evelynrunge, all the freelancers and associated teams and my amazing co-curators #sebastianlux and @franziska_mecklenburg !

Wir freuen uns, Dr. Sophie-Charlotte Opitz @photogra__phi als neue Professorin für Medienwissenschaften im Fachbereich Design der Fachhochschule Dortmund begrüßen zu dürfen.

Sophie-Charlotte Opitz ist Kuratorin, Autorin und Medienwissenschaftlerin. Nach ihrem Studium promovierte sie zu Kriegs- und Konfliktfotografie und beschäftigt sich in ihrer Forschung mit den politischen Dimensionen von bildgebenden Medien. Ihre Arbeit konzentriert sich insbesondere auf mediale Erinnerungskulturen, visuelle Proteststrategien sowie Bildpolitiken im Kontext globaler Konflikte und gesellschaftlicher Transformationsprozesse.

Für ihre Kuration und Forschung wurde sie mit diversen Stipendien ausgezeichnet, darunter von der Akademie Schloss Solitude @akademisolitude, der Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung @kruppstiftung sowie von Villa Aurora & Thomas Mann House e. V. @thomas_mann_house. Sie publiziert regelmäßig in wissenschaftlichen Sammelbänden, Kunstpublikationen und überregionalen Tageszeitungen, wie der @faz.

Mit ihrer Lehre möchte sie Medientheorie mit den Lebensrealitäten der Studierenden verbinden, beispielsweise in Seminaren zu Medienskandalen, zu Karaoke als Kultur- und Medienpraxis oder in Kurationsprojekten, in denen gemeinsam Formen des Ausstellens und Vermittelns erprobt werden.

Heute ist Weltfrauen*kampftag und wir kämpfen. Gemeinsam und alleine, laut und leise, mit Herz und Verstand, Liebe und Wut, Flexibilität und Persistenz.
Dass ausgerechnet jetzt mein Artikel zu Liebe in der @faz erschienen ist, finde ich passend und komisch zugleich. Denn über Liebe nachzudenken scheint pathetisch. Über Liebe nachzudenken ist wichtig.
Zwischen Imagination und Handyscreen spielen Online-Dating-Apps hierbei eine wichtige Rolle. In ihnen verdichten sich alte Repräsentationsmuster, Marktlogiken, Projektionen und Wünsche.
Sie sind Ausdruck eines gesellschaftlichen Wandels zwischen dem Rückzug ins Virtuelle und der Sehnsucht nach dem Realen:

“Dating-Apps können Menschen einander näherbringen, und doch entzieht sich die Liebe dem Berechnenden. Schon 1983 ließ Erich Fried in seinem Gedicht „Was es ist“ andere Fähigkeiten über die Liebe urteilen: „Es ist lächerlich, sagt der Stolz. Es ist leichtsinnig, sagt die Vorsicht. Es ist unmöglich, sagt die Erfahrung.“ Das digitale Zeitalter fordert diese Irrationalität heraus. In ihrem digitalen Gewand oszilliert Liebe zwischen Plattformlogik und Romantik, Idealismus und Resignation, Verfügbarkeit und Verwehrung.. […] Am Ende ist die Widerständigkeit gegen jegliche Rationalität das, was die Liebe – analog und digital – ausmacht. Fried lässt ihr zum Schluss das Wort: „Es ist, was es ist, sagt die Liebe.“

Ich wünsche uns so trotzig, wie die Liebe zu sein. Mit all ihrer Widerständigkeit, ihrer Abkehr vom Vorhersagbaren und ihrer Irrationalität.

Oh Paris, city of mirrors and marble, meillheur and marvel! This #parisphoto has been all about sisterhood. My heart is full of magnifique encounters with all these amazingly intelligent, passionate, loving women. I am in awe of your wisdom, strength, and gentleness <3
And of course, Paris Photo wouldn’t be what it is without our allies:)
How lucky we are, to have photography as our common rollercoaster.

If PhotoNews @photonewshamburg writes so, it must be true: Starting from next semester, I am going to work as a professor of media studies in the Design Department @fhdo_design at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences @fhdortmund . So much looking forward to working with the students, colleagues, and faculty and to pursuing research on global media dynamics, activism, memory cultures, and conflict @fhdo_foto @fhdo_kd @fhdo_film .
And with regards to @buceriuskunstforum , there’s no doubt about me going to continue working on our projects with the team closest to my heart <3
