Avec des résidences en Belgique et Berne aux mythiques Dachstock et feu Kapitel Bollwerk, il explore sans cesse le dancefloor au-delà des genres. Basses profondes, radicalité, hypnose et surprise définissent sa signature, comme celle de son label Dubtopia.Au bénéfice d’une vaste sélection de tracks qu’on invite chacun·ex à découvrir, en voici déjà deux qu’on aime tout particulièrement:𝒑𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒙 - 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒆 (𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍)Hurryia for Gaza II, deuxième compilation et collecte entièrement dédiée à la Palestine, revèle ce petit bijou. Autour du titre Archangel de Burial, phrex construit ici un univers tout autant contrastant. Tristesse et deuil se retrouvent au centre, enrobé d’une basse résolument oppressante. Si le chagrin se fait ressentir, il n’empêche pas le synthé d’offrir des notes d’espoir. 🔗in bio.~~~~~~release day~~~~~~~Remember the future?In 2026, dubtopia turns 15. To celebrate, we’re dropping within one year a series of four releases featuring unreleased material from our first decade of music making (2009–2020).Accompanied by another handful of curated releases we are continuing our catalog with music for big speakerstacks.It all began in a damp cellar where @phrexbass , @cutkachi and flowtune would jam together through entire weekends while burning up what in hindsight might have been a truckload of weed.Around the same time we started setting up nights in a tiny squat basement towards the end of the 2000s — running a massively oversized PA in the dark, wrestling feedback, and filling the room with haze. The scene was small, but people travelled from across Switzerland to skank-out, connect and ride the basslines.Those formative years became the foundation of dubtopia — a record label and a soundsystem session run by phrex with massive support from cutkachi. Over the years we’ve invited many of the artists who inspired us at the start: kahn, commodo, ishan sound, Pinch, Om Unit, Goth-Trad, V.I.V.E.K, Orson, dubkasm, mala, darwin and many more.Many tracks were lost to stolen laptops and broken hard drives, but a few survived on dubplates and will be carefully ripped and remastered for the upcoming compilations.Big love to everyone who shaped our path: jason at @transitionmastering , Adi at @centraldubs , @justicesoundsystem , @guyus_ , new.com, Yaron, @nightmanager_ii , @send_return_sound , @digitalsteppazsoundsystem , @collynization_soundsystem , Dubexmachina, Cabaret, DMZ at Mass, @systemmusicuk at the Dome, Denk:mal, steppas choice/C4TR, @subfmradio , @dampfzentrale_bern , the Dubtopia Family — and of course @dachstock_reitschule and previously @souli_rossli (we miss the small sessions at rössli… so pure!), our regular homes since 2011, giving us space despite falling bottles, plates, and soundchecks rumbling the restaurant downstairs.——artwork: @nacht_zum_tag mastering: tempeltone except track #2: transitionmasteringenergy: you! by @phrexbass

Phrex is a multidisciplinary artist who works under various aliases as a DJ, producer, and mixed-media creator. Born to Syrian parents and raised in Bern, he is actively engaged in social and nightlife-culture communities. Through his involvement in projects such as Radio Bollwerk, Dubtopia, Midilux, Montsomnia & Festival, and Ciné Résistance, he helps create spaces for exchange, community, and powerful low-end-driven experiences. His work combines cultural participation with artistic innovation, fostering collective joy and empowerment.
