My new video work, commissioned by the Microwave Film Festival, will be presented in Chanthaburi.

“We are cut off from the world, surrounded by absolute solitude, and terribly far from home.”

The work reflects on the many people who once came to Chanthaburi from far away French and Vietnamese soldiers, Vietnamese Christians, and Shan gem miners and the memories they left behind.

When the French forces withdrew from Chanthaburi in 1903, what remained were those who were buried here, those who returned home, and those who gradually disappeared from memory.

An eight-minute video will be projected onto a building in Chanthaburi, with a second video accessible through a QR code on the viewer’s mobile phone.

Two images, two spaces, one memory.

Do they still remember Chanthaburi?

The work will be presented alongside works by other artists at the Microwave Film Festival, 28–29 August. by @phuttiphong
