How to get to Pi Artworks London & PSW

6 Perseverance Works, E2 7NX
Main entrance: 25-27 Hackney Road by @piartworks

Pi Artworks presents An Enquiry into Colour and Matter, the first solo exhibition by Elina Yumasheva (b. 1988), whose paintings bring traditional techniques into dialogue with environmental science and experimental materials, including pigments extracted from
laboratory-cultivated bacteria.

A recent graduate of the Royal College of Art and recipient of the Basil H. Alkazzi Scholarship Award, Yumasheva investigates how colour, form and
matter emerge through their interactions.

My solo show 'Power of What (Memory Room)' is now open @piartworks, Shoreditch.

'Power of What (Memory Room)' reflects upon young adulthood as a time of transition and possibility. This intimate installation explores memory and identity through newly revealed self-portrait photography from my 35 years old archive, juxtaposed with recent sculptures, watercolours and a new wallpaper work.

'Power of What' draws upon the space of my first studio which was the dilapidated, minimal greenhouse in our garden. The structure provided a space for creative growth whilst representing a feeling of 'being at once inside and outside' symbolising my feelings as a young queer artist in the 1980's of being seen, yet outside.

The self-portraits at the core of the exhibition show the tenderness, curiosity and uncertainty of queer teenage years and young adulthood. I'm wearing my prized men's brogues; I'm framing myself in the greenhouse doorway, androgynous, turning away. Yet present.

For the first time I'm.also showing watercolours and drawings made as a teenager in the 1980's. Shown here in dialogue they give insight into the formal and conceptual origins of the sculptural language running through my large scale public works such as 'The Hop', 2022-23, Hayward Gallery, as well as my early experiments with light and translucent material.

There's a celebratory quality to 'Power of What (Memory Room)'. For the first time, I'm using dichroic material that, through the action of light, casts a spectrum of rainbow colours. This flows through a new family of photographs, the wallpaper, and a major new sculpture 'Running and Returning'. Central to the show and made from simple garden cloches (miniature greenhouses), this sculpture signifies a sense of my life coming full circle. A rainbow covenant between my past young self and present adult self.

$Pi Artworks presents Power of What (Memory Room), Jyll Bradley’s first solo exhibition in the UK since Running and Returning, her major presentation at The Box in Plymouth (2025). Power of What (Memory Room) will draw upon Bradley’s first studio which she established in the dilapidated, minimal greenhouse in her childhood garden. The structure provided a space for creative growth where the light that permeated the glass, fracturing into colourful prisms, became a vital medium that would be harnessed by the artist throughout her career. 7 October - 5 November 2026 Private View: Tuesday, 6 October, 6 - 9 PM 📍Pi Artworks London, 6 Perseverance Works, E2 7NX RSVP: london@piartworks.com #JyllBradley #PowerofWhat #piartworkslondon #friezeweek #london by @piartworks$
