Picaro is an adventurous rogue, skilled in the craft of stealth, lock picking, and alchemy. He knows his way around a blade, too. When he was only a boy, he washed up on the island of Squal Parlor, a forgotten speck of a port in the Far Reaches, uncharted on many maps. Marked early on as a thief, Picaro embraced it. When he was only ten, it landed him a place on Valgur’s crew.

This was not altogether a blessing for the boy, for he was forced to learn many harsh lessons in order to survive. Men are cruel, he found, and all they seemed to do was lie, kill, and steal from each other. It all came to a point one night when he stuffed Captain Valgur’s prized bestial amulet into the mouth of a cannon, and fired it onto shore where his accomplice was waiting to sell it to a mysterious buyer who would fund his dreams of escape and lasting freedom.

Picaro will have many adventures in the Myriad Isles and across the continent of Karobos, traveling it further perhaps than any man before him. This, it seemed, was always his gift, his calling. As the sea first called him, soon too did the mountains and the towering glades. An adventurer, an explorer, a young harbinger, indeed. Though, at times he wrought more than he bargained for, it was a journey not in vain, for many fates rested on his young shoulders. More than he could ever know. by @picaro.novel

In his time as navigator aboard Ye ‘Ol Marigold, and later the Seafang, Silvertime had the privilege of charting many stretches of ocean. Herein lies his ongoing atlas of the waters encompassing the Myriad Isles, though there may yet be more to be discovered beyond the borders of his map.

The main continent of Karobos lies northwest. Men who fled the great cataclysm found refuge in the Barrier Isles that hug the coast. Yet little did they know, entire archipelagos lay farther east, punctuated by Fine Island, which men have come to call the Sweet Tooth for its vast resources and wealth of plunder.

Trade flows throughout the isles, but also many acts of piracy. Some men seek to claim their fame among the Myriad Isles, some only to find refuge or solace. Though, all are fleeting.

The World of Karobos as it stands in the present age, during Picaro’s time.

All around, there is conflict.

In the Buried, the Baron Council rule from their seat in Colossadune, a mountainous fortress of moving metal that traverses the sands, bringing all under its cruel yoke. The Amber Steppes climb up above the Buried, and its farms feed the remnants of humanity. On the Eastern coast, the port city of Parley sits like a dusty jewel, standing apart from Colossadune, though still under a strenuous alliance with the world’s greatest power. Parley’s merchant masters purvey their wares overlooking Scarred Truce Bay. They broker deals with leaders of the Free Men, those salty sailors who have taken to the sea to stake their claim among the Myriad Isles.

North of the Buried, *those necrotic* tend to their cauldrons and reap from the collections of the dead to feed their necromancy within the Haul of Bones, over which hangs a persistent and ever brooding shadow. Looming up above the Haul, the Carapace Mountains rise like the hackles of an ancient beast preparing to strike. The Altaire of Giantkind have come down out of the Gaunt to rekindle their feud with the Uldur people of the mountain valleys, those wandering tribes of sages and warriors who steward the land.

To the West, in the murky depths of the Bogmarsh, hope is fleeting, for a mysterious threat has arisen to haunt the denizens of a soggy, flooded land where the water is already undrinkable. Rolling above the Bogmarsh are the Dead Hills, a now barren place stripped clean by the Lumber Force of Colossadune, who in their greed, have trekked ever northward to plunder what they might from the might from the Bramblewood, an ancient and ominous forest of brewing legend. Yet something far older still guards the forest’s borders and tends to the stream that feeds its soil, and who now wages a secret war against them.

From coast to coast, into far and forgotten lands, such are the paths the young harbinger must tread, for all of Karobos must play its part before the end. by @picaro.novel

Life aboard Ye Ol’ Marigold, Valgur’s prize ship, was no place for a child. Picaro was not schooled in the ways a traditional youth ought to be. He did not learn a trade save cooking and lock picking, nor work in merchantry. In fact, he often robbed them.

He was made a man amongst unsavory figures, each with their own fatal flaw. Men who shouldn’t be around children. The discipline he received depended on the particular crewmate and his brand of justice. Before he was fourteen, Picaro had been beaten, burned and nearly drowned. And, with each interaction, he learned who of the crew he could trust, who to avoid, and who he wanted to kill when the time was right. by @picaro.novel
