Vitiligo: a condition in which the pigment is lost from areas of the skin, causing whitish patches, often with no clear cause. This occurs when melanocytes, which are cells responsible for skin pigment, die off. Vitiligo does not cause pain, or loss of function, just simply a difference in appearance. This is why it’s important to be aware to avoid any misconceptions or different behavior towards individuals with vitiligo. by @picassato

Black women are prone to a type of hair loss called traction alopecia. Sometimes in certain areas, sometimes all over the scalp. It is a topic normally shrugged off by shame because we are often told our femininity/attractiveness lies in our hair, but it is very common amongst BW and does not make us any less beautiful. by @picassato
