Meet the Illustrator: @mariampoppins 🎨💛

Wife, mom, homeschooling parent, and children’s book illustrator. She describes her art as nostalgic, sprinkled with joy, hope and positivity. She’s also the artist behind The Hit List cover. 💎

Watch to see her story, her advice for authors, and a fun fact about her.

One thing she wants authors to know: quality illustration takes time. Human-made art takes patience, love and time. It’s not fast food.

She’s open to new collaborations with people who think her art is a good fit for their project, with no changes to her style. Authors, tag someone who needs to see her work. 👇🏾

We swear we look more professional now.

(Spoiler: We definitely do not.) 😅👇🏾

Before we became authors writing books to help kids navigate big emotions, money, and bravery, we were just kids making these exact faces. Some things never change—except now, instead of causing chaos, we’re putting those lessons on the page! ✨

If you want your little ones to grow up confident, money-smart, and brave, we’ve bundled our books together just for you.

Grab the 3-Book Power Bundle today:
💰 Dollars and $ense: Financial Literacy for Kids by @authorlatashawoods — Teaching kids how to make their money work for them early on.

You’ve been waiting, so here it is. 💎

The Hit List cover, illustrated by @mariampoppins . She’s the illustrator I’ve admired for so long, and I still can’t believe she said yes. 💛

The Hit List is a guide to hidden gems: picture books that put Black kids front and center, with stories and illustrations that actually hit. Human-made art only, no AI. Not the same books on every other list.

It’s still a work in progress, and it’s a living list, so I’ll keep adding new categories and books over time.

Want it the very day it’s released?
💎 Comment HIT LIST and I’ll send you the link to sign up and it will land in your inbox as soon as it’s ready📬

Tag a friend who’s always asking, “What should I read to my kids?” 👇🏾

This is a 💎. Put this on the shelf.

The Hit List is free. But I wasn’t about to slap just any cover on it. 💎

This list is too curated and too special for that. So I did something a little scary and reached out to a children’s book illustrator whose work I’ve admired for a long time.

She has no idea how long I’ve been fangirling over her art. 😅

And she said yes.

I can’t wait to show you what she created. 👀 Cover reveal coming soon.

Oh, nothing to see here. Just two women building amazing brands. 💛

So grateful to be in a business cohort with Carmella of @cme_publish . She helps Black women write and publish their stories, and being around women like her, building, learning, and cheering each other on, is everything.

Catch her workshop “It’s About Time” at the Atlanta Book Festival on October 17, and go show her some love. ☺️
