POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
On View | ‘Dos Amigos,’ celebrating longtime friends and Santa Fe artists Jerry West and Luis Tapia.

Together, West and Tapia offer distinct ways of telling stories about the place they know so well. Their New Mexico is real and robust and they share their affinity for the state through depictions of loved ones, saints, local hangouts and homesteads, memories and myths, and the enchanting landscape that we all know well.

‘Dos Amigos: Jerry West + Luis Tapia,’ is on view until November 21.

‘Larry Bell: Improvisations’ opens at SITE SANTA FE (@sitesantafe) on October 16, spanning four decades of his two- and three-dimensional practice.

On a recent visit to Larry Bell’s (@larrybellstudio) Taos studio, we got a look inside the window of “The Tank,” the vacuum chamber behind some of his most recognizable works.

“Inventing his own materials even as he wields them, Bell has developed a singular method, adapting industrial techniques to achieve luminous works of art. Improvisations… features glass sculptures – from tabletop constructions to large, freestanding installations – and wall-mounted works in various media.

Glass has long been his signature medium – a conduit for light. Bell’s transparent panes attain stunning chromatic variation through his unique process for treating glass: coating it with thin films of vaporized metals inside a vacuum chamber known as ‘The Tank.’”

Pictured here, Larry beside the machine, followed by a look inside his “control room” of sorts.

Opening October 17 | 4-6 pm, Jerry West + Luis Tapia

We are pleased to present a two-person exhibition bringing together the work of longtime friends, Santa Fe artists Jerry West and Luis Tapia. Born into different cultural traditions, West and Tapia share an instinct for storytelling. Their work is rooted in the New Mexico they both know intimately, each drawing on lived experience and inherited traditions to tell its stories.

A painter, adventurer, and one of New Mexico’s most accomplished living artists, Sam Scott (@sam_scott_artist) has spent more than six decades following his curiosity, creating a career as expansive and inquisitive as his life behind it.

We are delighted to celebrate Scott as a recipient of the 2026 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts, alongside fellow honorees Adrian Aguirre, Anne Hillerman, Bill Barrett, Delbert Anderson (Diné), Eli Levin, Andrew Connors, and the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA).

‘Fortune’s Plight,’ part of Dana Newmann’s ‘Handwriting Series’ is composed of a remnant of an instruction sheet dating back to the 1800’s with oddments superimposed and placed under binocular lenses.

When asked why she chose to include a portrait of a young child, Newmann said “I’d never seen a little girl look out so sternly. I really appreciated it!”

“Observations and questions about mysteries of the universe, life and consciousness are sources of visual ideas for my paintings, and constructions. Making these works is an ongoing process of experimentation and negotiation between ideas and materials.” - Signe Stuart (@signestuart.studio)

In his body of work titled ‘Behind The Scenes,’ Ben Dallas (@bedallas) brings the often-hidden structures of painting into view, pairing frayed canvas supports with carefully painted panels. The resulting pieces combine crisp geometry with tactile, irregular surfaces, and are full of small details that reveal themselves over time.

“There is an exploration of materiality, but also of the self. The ceramic pieces begin with my own blouses, which are brushed with porcelain and fired. Rope is then attached, cinching the forms while still leaving them open. There is something in that tension between restriction and openness that connects the material back to the body and to the self.” There is an exploration of materiality being considered, but also of the self. The ceramic pieces are blouses that have been porcelain-brushed, and then the rope has been attached, cinching them with an openness.” -Daisy Quezada Ureña (@daisyquezadaurena)

Currently on view in our Garden Gallery until October 10.
