A few weeks ago, I lost an Instagram account with over 82,000 followers.

Two years of work disappeared overnight.

But here’s the thing: the photos are still here. The passion is still here. And hopefully, so are some of you.

So I’m starting again.

From zero.

If you’ve just found this account, welcome. If you’ve followed me before, thank you for being here again.

Let’s see how far we can take this journey together. 🌿📸 taken in France by @pierregavarry

This photo almost didn’t happen.

The weather was terrible.

Dark clouds, rain… pretty much the kind of conditions that make most people pack their gear and go home.

I stayed.

A few minutes later, this cormorant flew right through a small opening in the sky, just enough for the light to catch its wings.

I only had a second to react.

That’s one of the reasons I love my Sony 200-600mm. It lets me stay far enough away not to disturb wildlife, while still being ready when something unexpected happens.

Most of the time, I come home with nothing special.

But every now and then, everything comes together for a split second… and that’s what keeps me going back.

And if you want to make your photo look like this, I’ve made a few presets pack to help you edit your photos ! Just comment « Preset » and I’ll send you a link 👇🏼 taken in France by @pierregavarry

Hey, I’m Pierre, a photographer from France 🇫🇷

I spent almost 3 years looking for a way to describe how the world looks through my eyes…

Then I realized it wasn’t about showing the original photo.

It was about showing the feeling.

These edits aren’t here to replace reality.
They’re here to show what made me stop, what caught my attention, what I felt in that exact moment.

Not to create something that never existed…
But to recreate the emotion that made me press the shutter.

That’s why this series exists.

YES, this is the original photo.

BUT, this is how I experienced the moment.

Maybe that’s what photography has always been.

Not capturing reality…
Capturing your own way of seeing it 🤍📷

Global edits set the base, masks tell the story.

This is how I shape light, mood and emotion. Using the same presets and masking workflow on every image.

Most people would probably walk past this bird without giving it a second look.

But that’s exactly what I love about wildlife photography.

Learning to slow down.
Learning to notice the small details.
Finding beauty in the species that are there every single day.

The Little Egret isn’t rare.
It isn’t the most colorful bird you’ll ever see.

Yet, in the right light, with the right composition, it becomes something special.

Sometimes, great photos aren’t about finding extraordinary subjects.

They’re about seeing ordinary subjects in an extraordinary way.

Some moments don’t need to be rare to be unforgettable.

This young Greater Rhea was quietly resting in the tall grass, keeping an eye on everything around it.

No dramatic action.
No perfect pose.

Just a peaceful moment that lasted a few seconds… long enough to remind me why I love wildlife photography.

The best photos aren’t always the ones with the most action.
Sometimes they’re simply the ones that make you stop and look a little longer.

YES. BUT… 👀

Yes, this is what I saw.

But it’s not what I felt.

Photography has never been about reproducing reality perfectly.
It’s about translating a moment into an emotion.

Sometimes the rain feels heavier.
The light feels warmer.
The silence feels deeper.

That’s why I edit my photos.

Not to fake nature.
But to recreate the feeling I had when I pressed the shutter.

If you’ve ever looked at one of my photos and thought,
“There’s no way it looked like that…”

You’re right.

It looked different.

It just felt like this.

Do you prefer the YES or the BUT version? 👇🏼📸 taken in France by @pierregavarry

Hi I’m Pierre, a wildlife photographer from France 🇫🇷

People often ask me what lens I use.

The truth is… the lens is only a small part of the final image.

This photo was taken with my Sony 200-600mm, but the gear didn’t find the bird.
It didn’t choose the composition.
It didn’t wait for the perfect light.
And it definitely didn’t create the atmosphere.

That’s what makes photography so addictive.

A great lens helps.
Patience helps even more.
And learning how to see light changes everything.

The camera captures the moment.
You create the story.

What’s your dream wildlife lens? 👇🏼📸 taken in France by @pierregavarry

« Yes, but… »

I hear it all the time.

« Yes, but the original looked better. »

And that’s completely okay.

Photography has always been subjective.

For me, editing has never been about changing reality.
It’s about recreating what I felt when I pressed the shutter.

The silence around a frog at sunset.
The warm light behind a flying bird.
The mysterious atmosphere hidden in the forest.
The emotion of a single flamingo surrounded by empty water.

The RAW file is where my camera stops.
The edit is where my vision begins.

You don’t have to edit your photos like I do.
You don’t even have to edit them at all.

But this is how I tell my stories.

So… are you team YES or team BUT? 👀📸 taken in France by @pierregavarry

Every photo has a story.

Not just the one you see at the end, but everything that happened before pressing the shutter.

Hours of walking.
Waiting.
Observing.
Finding the light.
Choosing the composition.

This little bird stayed on this flower for only a few seconds, but it took much longer to find that moment.

And yes… it was taken with my favorite wildlife lens: the Sony 200-600mm. 📸

People often ask me if gear is important.

My answer is always the same:
Gear helps you capture a moment.
But patience, light and vision are what turn that moment into a photograph.

What’s your favorite wildlife lens? 👇🏼🐦 taken in France by @pierregavarry
