A little hand for scale. Some pics of the process of Staircase (Breakfast). Somehow these miniature paintings became versions of the ceramic amulets I’ve been making and investigating via workshops in the last few years - objects we carry with us, the memories they hold, a sense of connection, belonging and longing. //Uma mãozinha para dar escala. Algumas fotos do processo de Escada (Café da Manhã). De alguma forma essas pinturas em miniatura refletem os amuletos em cerâmica que venho fazendo e investigando através de oficinas nos últimos anos - objetos portáteis, as memórias que eles carregam, a vontade de conectar, pertencer e o constante anseio por algo que não está presente. by @pietragalli

Found this picture my friend Leti took of me a couple of months ago when I was living and working from a studio in my late grandparents’s house, where I also lived as a kid before moving to Portugal.My work is deeply connected to this place, even when it is not directly about it. Having the opportunity to go back to my childhood house as an adult and work there on my own for some time has been one of the most special experiences in my professional and personal life. Thank you for capturing a part of this @l__e__t__i .// Encontrei esta foto que a minha amiga Leti tirou há uns meses atrás enquanto vivia e trabalhava no ateliê que construí na casa dos meus avós, onde eu também morei por um tempo em criança antes de me mudar para Portugal. O meu trabalho está profundamente conectado com este lugar, até mesmo quando não fala diretamente sobre ele. Voltar a esta casa de infância como adulta e ter a oportunidade de trabalhar aqui sozinha por um tempo foi uma das experiências profissionais e pessoais mais especiais da minha vida. Algumas fotos do processo do Anjo da GuardaEste anjinho loiro de olhos azuis vem de uma imagem que a minha mãe bordou para o nosso quarto de criança. Mesmo sem o ver durante muitos anos tornou-se uma imagem muito vívida no meu subconsciente. Crescendo numa família (e país) católico essas imagens de anjos da guarda eram frequentes no dia a dia, em latas de bolacha, em pinturas e principalmente no meu imaginário. A oração do anjo da guarda foi das primeiras que aprendi com a minha avó e é das únicas que eu sei de cor até hoje. Voltei a ver este tapete novamente recentemente no banheiro da garagem da minha tia. Desta vez ele era apenas um objeto funcional e a imagem desta criança rechonchuda, branquinha, com asas e olhos azuis me pareceu um pouco alienada. O seu simbolismo de proteção e inocência ficaram para trás e me fez pensar sobre ilusões da infância e ilusões de adultos sobre a infância e como essas ilusões nos carregam no dia a dia até deixarem de fazer sentido. ~~Some pictures of the process of Guardian AngelThis blonde blue eyed angel was an image my mum embroidered on a rug for our childhood bedroom. It remained a vivid presence in my mind even after not seeing it for decades. Growing up in a catholic family (and country) these images of guardian angels were everywhere, they were on biscuit tins, on paintings and on my imaginary. The guardian angel prayer was also the first one I learned from my grandma and it’s the only prayer I still know today by heart. I saw the rug once again recently at my aunt’s house in the garage’s bathroom, now as just a practical rug, far from its initial idea of innocence and protection. The image of this little chubby, blonde, blue eyed child with wings seemed alienated and it made me think about all these illusions we carry from childhood and about the illusions adults have about childhood, and how we carry them on our everyday until they stop making sense. by @pietragalli
