Howzit Peeps! Another small kine PSA for ya! Changing things up a bit in order to better serve you and for me to have more time to make the donuts! Time for some fresh sliding feels! Obviously you all know the SD influence is heavy in my shaping and for good reasons! Taking a bit from the Fish Simmons and unko Skips Swish I came up with the ‘Freebird’. Wanting to make the most maneuverable and versatile glider it features extra curve in the rocker, a deep channeling single to double concave, 2+1 fin set up so can be ridden as single, Twin, or Tri.

About the “3M”

Designed in collaboration with Eli Mirandon in San Diego, the 3M (Mirandon Mind Machine) takes inspiration from the sweet spot of an early-2000s 6’5” Xanadu step-up.
The combination of a super low entry rocker and extreme tail rocker creates a unique balance of speed and maneuverability.

New personal record (for smallest board shaped), 4’0 x 15 3/8 x 1 7/8 for little 7 year old Emme. Probably the biggest challenge for any shaper, it started as a 6’0P @usblanks I spread it over three days in between others boards I was working on. First started getting the bottom curve right, and cut the out line. Next day a little more tuning of the rocker after seeing how both outline and rocker were working together, then I shaped the deck. On the last day I dialed in what I did the day before on the deck and turned the rails. I lost count how many times this fell of the racks. The fun thing for me with this one is that this is Emmes first handshape. Her dad came to me because all of the boards before just werent right, even though they were from of the best shapers you know the names of. I’m pretty confident with this one, it scaled beautifully. Maybe a story here like Ol’ John Henry vs the steam powered rock drill, man vs machine. Years ago I had an Uncle who worked at Pearl Harbor Shipyard come in to order a Kneeboard, I told him I handshape everything. He said ya know computers can’t make a natural curve, they’re just connecting the dots. Uncle knows… taken in Surfboards by Todd Pinder by @pinderhi

Finally got my feet in the wax of this 10’0 Downing shaped by Uncle George circa 1988! Without a doubt this board was made for Makaha and for size as big as you wanted to go, you can definitely see the lineage from the likes of ‘Pinky’ and ‘The Rocket’. Obviously there are some familiar similarity’s with today’s gliders, and I’d thought it would be fun to first take it out in all this fun town swell we’ve been having. Paired it up with my 9.5” HI Aspect fin from @true_ames, the narrow base, tall aspect, with some rake at the tip help free up the tail on these smaller waves. Now that I’ve got to feel it out, the board will get a mild restoration in preparation for some North swells… taken in Ala Moana Beach by @pinderhi
