In just 4 days, I will walk away from Norfolk State University not just with a degree, but with a story of perseverance, strength, and growth.

Dear Younger Self,

You may be a 30-year-old college graduate now, and while the road was long and filled with detours, know this: delayed does not mean denied.

Your journey was never meant to look like anyone else’s-it was divinely orchestrated just for you.
Every trial you faced, every tear you cried, every moment you felt like giving up—it all served a purpose. God never left your side. He was there in the silence, in the struggle, and in the waiting. Trust that His timing is perfect.

Hold your head high. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Life has been a whirlwind these past few weeks—filled with late nights, big emotions, and non-stop preparation. But today, I finally paused and let it sink in: I did it. I’m officially a graduate of Norfolk State University.

From sleepless nights to 11:59 assignments, juggling full-time work, full-time school, and running a business, I pushed through every obstacle thrown my way. I cried, I struggled, I lost people I loved, and still, I rose. Raised in a single-parent household, I learned resilience early.

As a first-generation college graduate, I carried not just my dreams, but the hopes of my entire family.
There were days I wanted to give up-when the weight felt too heavy, when grief felt suffocating, and when exhaustion became a constant. But God kept me.
My strong mother showed me what endurance looks like. My praying grandmother covered me in love and protection I could feel even in my darkest moments.
My wonderful support system — siblings, family, friends — held me up when I couldn’t stand on my own.

Norfolk State University became more than a school; it became my battleground and my victory ground. Through the Health Services Management program, I found my purpose-to serve, to lead, to heal. I found my strength. I became the woman my younger self needed.

To the little girl from Crestwood who thought she wouldn’t make it— you did. You’re everything you dreamed you’d be and more. And to every young woman out there grinding, feeling unseen, feeling unworthy-keep going. You are not alone, and your story matters.

Be proud of every tear, every failure, every comeback. You are building something beautiful from the struggle.
This degree isn’t just paper. It’s proof of my perseverance. God I thank you🩷
