Gig tomorrow afternoon! Me and @iknowelina playing stripped back versions of our songs at the Pianodrome in Bruntsfield. Free! But ticketed! So grab yours from my bio link if you fancy a lunchtime musical treat :)

Here’s a bit of my song Saccharine on my garden piano (we all have one right) back when it was more like summer and promptly forgotten. Very much looking forward to swapping the garden for a grand! 🎹

It’s Bandcamp Friday again this week! In case that means nothing to you - usually when you support an artist on Bandcamp they will get about 85% of what you paid them. When profit margins can be so small in the first place this can be quite significant. On Bandcamp Fridays, the website gives their share to the artist as well 💕 So your support actually goes where you intend it to and the good karma increases too.

I’ve got a bunch of cool alt pop things on my Bandcamp page - click my bio link for physical and digital music, tote bags, badges and some new stickers!

In other news I am so looking forward to the Pianodrome gig with Aino Elina next Saturday. See you there?!?

So I got too excited when my box of vinyls arrived in time for Bandcamp Friday…
Posting a blooper coz I gave up on the actual content idea after this 😅
ANYWAY! It’s Bandcamp Friday today! For one day only, they kindly give artist 100% of sales and forfeit their cut. For me as an independent artist, that can make a massive difference. So, if you feel like spontaneously supporting my music-making, please click my bio link where you will find digital download, vinyl, and limited edition USB cassette tapes.
(CD also available - just message me if that’s your format!)

Perfect for any fans of indie pop/if you want to hear what one guy called “Scottish Lily Allen”

P.S. don’t worry, the particular vinyl in this video is not for sale 🤦‍♀️

Oh hi I’m back! A few weeks back I spent a fab day with @novasoundstudio learning about remixing, courtesy of @hen_hoose. We worked with stems from their track Ego Death - a gorgeous tune from their album The Twelve which you can hear in all the usual places. For some reason my brain went to EDM land, not my usual style but very fun to explore. You can hear the first draft of my remix on this post, accompanied by an attempt at making a day spent at a uni desk look vaguely interesting 😅 It was a beautiful day to head to Ayr beach for a wander before going home.

I really enjoyed dipping my toe into remixing and would like to do more. Do you make pop music and want to do a remix exchange with me? I’ll work with your track if you’ll work with mine! Just drop me a message :)

Thank you again Lauren, Audrey and Hen Hoose for making it happen!

Actually really hurt my knee at the end there, so maybe that’s another way to achieve any tear-related goals?
(Please don’t tho)

Click my bio link to listen to my album or just search PINLIGHT wherever you like your music! Perfect if you like fun retro alt pop :D

In our guide:human interview series, we sit down with rising artists, bands, and musicians to talk inspiration, process, and the stories behind the sound.

For our ninth issue, meet PINLIGHT.

The alt-pop alter ego of Edinburgh-based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Jenny Laahs. Inspired by Kate Bush, CHVRCHES, and classic 80s production, she builds retro-tinged soundscapes that feel fresh and nostalgic at once. She’s self-taught as a songwriter and producer — and her ear for unusual samples (a sparkling water bottle opened in a library, elastic from her sewing box) gives the work its texture.

We talked about her beginnings, the influences shaping her sound (from Kate Bush and Prince to HAIM and Chappell Roan), her second album «All Things Nice» — made by an entirely female and gender-queer team — and the dream of one day doing a BBC live session with her own songs.
