I've been avoiding posting this because it means goodbye is real. Being a Drake was such a highlight of my life and I'm so excited to see what the dawgs do next. Truly just thank you for letting me be apart of your lives! 💞

Sitting in the parking lot post morning practice I found out you left us this morning. I didn't understand how lucky I was to have you (and Grammy) as my first boss in coaching. 22 year old me didn't realize how special of a position you gave me but 37 year old me does. You taught me how to delegate, keep priorities in line, and most of all how to always see people as human beings. You were never too self important for the little tasks like picking up trash at track meets or early mornings where you'd do a song and dance over spotted loose change and you were never too busy for a trip to Jamba Juice (berry double power protein). You had a way of empowering those around you and bringing out each person's best qualities. I knew this day was coming but I was still hoping it wouldn't. Thank you for helping me be a better person and coach. I miss you Al (Hans for the noon clubbers).

Unless you count the donut mile this was my first race back post surgery last October and while there's a lot to improve upon I'm so dang happy to have the opportunity to hurt.

While I know I will grow to take it for granted again, being sidelined for so long really helped me appreciate that opportunities are in fact a privilege. With that said I was excited to get to see so many friendly faces from former athletes (including getting to line up with Addy, Lexi, Ashley under the same jersey) former coaches, the best former (college) and current competitors (and friends) in Amanda and Anna who both kicked my butt today (and back then too). Also special shout out to Julius Rotich for helping me through my tough miles!

Someday I'll be better at both pacing and trusting myself until then here's to learning experiences and an appreciation of knowing that there's a lot more potential in the middle of the race.

Thank you to FSDP for this opportunity!

Almost a month late but better late than never... I had a lot of fun dropping down in race distance for the first time since dubbing myself a marathoner 3 years ago. I think that's the thing I take away the most from this experience is that I was a born again runner only 3 years ago. 3 years ago putting running shoes on and going out for a run would sometimes take hours of mental conflict before deciding to run or (more often than not) not run. In some warped version of life I'm heading into my "senior (feel like citizen) year" of self worth. While I had a great experience as an undergrad at ages 18-21 I never would have guessed of what I'm capable now. Being someone who never ran faster than 19:15 in a 5k in college then to be able to do that time with time to spare in sequence (18:36, 18:36, 19:05, 18:53) baffles me. It makes me question what did I need then to excel in longer distances then compared to now? The main idea I keep landing on is confidence. Even today I'm surprised to be able to do things that shouldn't be scary. Whether it's pacing for the Wartburg women or doing a prescribed workout the majority of the time until the gun goes off I truly question whether or not I can do the thing. Bringing me to this race, while I'm happy it still leaves me with a mixed taste in my mouth. I feel it was a big step forward in my confidence towards my goals and self belief. I hope to anyone who's made it this far reading that you learn from my experiences in racing and training: it's never too late to change your mind on yourself.

Thank again to Brandon for all of your coaching guidance and tolerance!

Thank you to everyone from friends to family to work for truly being partners in training.❤️ by @pippihw16

Proud moment post: I did something hard today and something that I kinda thought was part of a past life. Once upon a time I could rep out 30-32 second 200s like it was no big deal and I had made peace with the idea that would never happen again. Welp after putting off this workout for most of the day I finally went to the indoor track to get it done and at the end of the wo I surprised myself with a 31.9. Friendly reminder that you can do hard things and to give yourself the grace to get out of your own way. Happy running! #run #runnersofinstagram #indoortrack #wheresspring #learningtobefastagain #shamelessselfie #track #oldbutnotdone #thisisgoingtohurttomorrow #strava #stravarun taken in Wartburg College by @pippihw16
