ā€œHow many pitches should I throw to warm up before a game?ā€

One of the most asked questions I get—and one of the most misunderstood parts of a pitcher’s pre-game routine.

Because it’s not just about how many pitches.
It’s about which pitches, what intensity, and how to build up to them with purpose.

Most youth pitchers just throw until they feel ā€œkinda looseā€ā€¦

But without structure, that ā€œloosenessā€ never turns into real confidence.

That’s why I created the Pre-Game Warm-Up Checklist—to give pitchers (and parents) a clear, step-by-step guide they can trust.

Inside the checklist, I walk you through:
āœ”ļø How to structure every phase of warm-up
āœ”ļø What drills to use—and when to use them
āœ”ļø How to calm your nerves and lock in mentally
āœ”ļø What to do when you only have 10 minutes to get ready

If your pitcher has ever asked:
šŸ‘‰ ā€œHow do I know when I’m ready?ā€
šŸ‘‰ ā€œWhy do I feel great one day and totally off the next?ā€
šŸ‘‰ ā€œWhat should I actually be doing to prepare?ā€

This free checklist was made for her.🫔

šŸ’¬ Drop ā€œWARM UPā€ in the comments and I’ll send the full checklist to your inbox.

Let’s take the guesswork out of warm-up—and help your pitcher show up with confidence from pitch #1. šŸ’Ŗ taken in Austin, Texas by @pitchingangel

The real story behind the coach you see on your screen…

I used to think success as a pitcher meant throwing no-hitters.
Getting strikeouts.
Earning praise.
Chasing perfection.

I thought the more I performed, the more I was worth.

But the shift started after my sophomore year of high school.

I was exhausted—physically, mentally, emotionally—from trying to live up to the pressure I was putting on myself. The same conversations over and over with my coaches and parents. The weight of constantly needing to ā€œproveā€ something.

I knew there was more in me… I just didn’t know how to unlock it.

Then my junior year, everything changed.
I started getting more pitching time—both in high school and in travel ball.
It didn’t happen ā€œearlyā€ for me like it does for some.
In fact, I was always known more as a hitter than a pitcher.

But then college came.
I started the very first game of my freshman season… threw a no-hitter… hit fifth in the lineup… and never looked back.

That’s when I found my freedom in the circle.
And it’s that freedom I now help other pitchers discover through Pitching Angel.

For the pitchers who feel overlooked.
For the ones being told they ā€œcan’t.ā€
For the ones who want it so badly but don’t know how to get there.

Here’s what I’ve learned since then:
✨ You don’t have to do it alone.
✨ Confidence can be built—not just born.
✨ Mechanics can be understood—not just memorized.
✨ And greatness isn’t about being perfect—it’s about showing up with purpose.

I’m not just a coach.
I’m a former pitcher who knows what it feels like to:
• Doubt your speed
• Question your role
• Stay quiet
• Dream big
• And struggle to believe you belong

So let me ask you this:

šŸ‘‰ What would happen if you stopped chasing perfection…
and started pitching like yourself—with freedom? taken in Austin, Texas by @pitchingangel

If even ONE of these sounds like your pitcher, she needs this event.

I see it every single day. Parents reaching out, frustrated because their pitcher throws strikes in practice... but the second she steps into a game? The wheels fall off.

ā€œShe’s got the talent but can’t seem to bring it when it matters.ā€
Or ā€œshe’s overthinking every single pitch - so focused on mechanics that she can’t just let it fly.ā€

Or ā€œshe’s walking off the mound frustrated more often than confident, doubting herself after every outing.ā€

Or ā€œshe’s working HARD but stuck at the same level, not seeing any improvement.ā€

And you? You’re not even sure what to work on anymore. You’re bouncing between different advice and nothing seems to stick.
Your pitcher doesn’t need more drills. She needs a PLAN.

She needs to know the RIGHT training order. She needs to see real progress every single week. She needs clarity instead of confusion.
That’s exactly what we’re covering on Thursday, October 22 at 7pm CT in my FREE live event: How to Build an Unbreakable Pitcher This Off-Season

If any of those 5 signs hit home for you? Your pitcher needs this event.

The off-season mistake I see most: she spends November chasing speed.

It feels productive. She throws harder for a few weeks. Maybe she gains 2 or 3 mph.

But then her accuracy falls apart. She’s wild. She can’t hit her spots. Her confidence crumbles because she’s throwing HARD but not throwing WELL. And by mid-spring, she’s wondering if she even belongs out there.

I learned this the hard way. When I was younger, all I wanted was to throw HARD. I couldn’t find the strike zone. I was walking batters, hitting batters, and getting pulled before I could finish an inning. Every time I got pulled, I lost the mound time I desperately needed. Velocity means NOTHING if you can’t control it.

That’s why I train every pitcher in the same order: Foundation, then Accuracy, then Velocity. Strikes keep her defense in the game. Speed comes from solid mechanics, then the confidence to throw strikes, and then we add it on top. If she gained speed and lost the zone, go back to foundation for a few weeks. It feels like a step back. It’s the fastest way forward.

I’ll show you exactly how that order plays out this winter on Thursday, October 22 at 7pm CT in my FREE live training, How to Build an Unbreakable Pitcher This Off-Season.

The Monday after a rough tournament weekend, her glove is still in the car and nobody’s said a word about Sunday.

You want to help. You’re just not sure if today’s the day.

Give her the 24 hours first. Then ask two questions: ā€œWhat’s one thing you did well this weekend?ā€ and ā€œWhat’s one thing you want to work on?ā€ Let her answer both. Review, learn, release, and the glove comes back out of the car.

On Thursday, October 22, I’m going live, for free, to walk softball pitchers and their parents through her pitching winter, including how you help from home without adding pressure.

Probably more than she is now. But only with a plan.

Most pitchers aren’t practicing enough. Not even three times a week. And they don’t realize how much the hard work pays off. Start with at least 3 focused sessions a week, each one with ONE clear thing she’s working on. And every rep at full speed. Going through the motions at 60-70% won’t show up in games.

But I see the other side all the time, too. A pitcher is struggling, so her parents DM me for a drill. Still struggling? They Google another one. Try a new coach. Someone new to follow. More lessons.

Pretty soon she’s doing 47 different things and has no idea which ones actually matter.

She needs to know the RIGHT training order, and she needs to see real progress every single week.

A big part of that plan is body awareness. Pitching in front of a mirror, or without a ball, is one of the biggest things I teach.

That’s exactly what we’re covering on Thursday, October 22 at 7pm CT in my FREE live training: How to Build an Unbreakable Pitcher This Off-Season. I’m walking you through exactly what to focus on this winter, and in what order. Parents, this one’s for you!

When I was 9, my dad and I stood on a dusty field at my elementary school with a softball and absolutely no clue what we were doing.

No YouTube tutorials. No fancy coaches. Just me, my dad, and a dream that felt way too big.

We were showing up. We were working hard. But we were getting NOWHERE, because we didn’t have a plan.

Then my dad said something I’ve never forgotten: ā€œAmanda, we don’t have to figure it all out today. We just have to start.ā€

If you’re on that field with her right now, showing up and working hard without a plan, I see you. That was us. October 22 is the night I wish we’d had. I just mapped out every single minute of my FREE live training, How to Build an Unbreakable Pitcher This Off-Season, and I’m SO fired up. šŸ”„ It’s live. It’s free. And it’s built for the parent who wants her ready for spring without adding pressure. Thursday, October 22. 7pm CT. Pitcher AND parent.

She walks one batter. Then the next three pitches get faster and wilder.

You can see it from the stands. Her shoulders creep up. She rushes the windup. She stops looking at her catcher. And by the time the coach walks out, the inning is gone.

If that’s your pitcher, she’s in GOOD company. That speed-up is her mind trying to get out of the moment as fast as it can.

Between pitches, I teach her to go back to her reset routine. Slow down. Breathe. Every pitcher’s reset is unique to her, but it’s the same routine, the same way, every single time, so her body knows what comes next. And it gets built in the off-season: in every bullpen, after every ball, she runs her reset before the next pitch. That way it’s automatic LONG before the walk happens in a game.

Confidence isn’t something she’s born with. It’s something she BUILDS.

And that’s exactly what I’m teaching on Thursday, October 22 at 7pm CT in my FREE live training: How to Build an Unbreakable Pitcher This Off-Season. I’m showing you how to build that reset into her winter, plus what you can do from the stands that actually helps. Parents, this one’s for you!

She’s putting in the work. Lessons, bucket after bucket, extra reps on the weekends. And she’s still pitching just like she did a year ago.

I see this every off-season, and it’s almost never about effort. A plateau usually means she’s training the wrong things in the wrong order, or bouncing between so much advice that nothing gets a chance to stick. When she doesn’t know exactly what she’s working on, she can’t see progress. Without progress, confidence goes next.

On October 22 I’m going live, for free, to break down the training order that gets pitchers unstuck. I’ll explain why consistency comes before velocity, cover the off-season mistakes that leave pitchers stuck by February, and share what to focus on this winter instead.
