For athletes who do a ton of sprinting in their sport, it’s important in the pre-season to get exposed to fast, max intent movements while fatigued, because that’s what’s required in a game to perform at a high level.

In this workout we go straight from a long duration isometric hold into a plyometric. Then we finish with a race where they have to listen for the color of the cone to sprint around shortly after the first whistle. This keeps them mentally engaged and reactive, while the race element drives higher output.

Coaches: you don’t need to make conditioning miserable. Having them run stairs/gassers is lazy. There’s no max intent, there’s no focus on getting into positions that they need to get into while playing.

This kind of training translates more to real on-field physical demands, gets more buy-in from athletes and is way more fun than running gassers at the end of practice. taken in University of Pittsburgh by @pittmlax
