Our next student is Ava Perez. Ava is from Joplin, Missouri and she has read almost 100 books so far this year! She wants to go into emergency medicine, and she chose AMP to be with a close group of people that she can study with. by @pittstateamp.up

Our student this week is Riley Olson! Riley is from Overland Park, KS. She loves to listen to music, play the flute, and do diamond paintings. She wants to be a radiologist and chose AMP-UP because it's fun to work with people who are interested in the same field and to gain hands-on experience in classes. by @pittstateamp.up

Our next freshman AMP-UP student is Caitlin Norton. Caitlin is from Webb City, Missouri. She is not totally sure what type of physician she wants to be, but she is interested in plastic surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics, and OBGYN. She hates chocolate and chose AMP because it allows her to explore the medical field through hands on experiences while also building connections with a group of like-minded individuals. by @pittstateamp.up

Our student this week is Chloe Marples! Chloe is from Bella Vista, Arkansas. She chose AMP because she was excited to be around like-minded people who are serious and excited about pursuing the medical field! She also says that the partnership with KCU Med is great because we will not only be able to rely on each other throughout college, but we will also be able to rely on each other throughout medical school. Her fun fact is that she is Egyptian, and she is still exploring what kind of physician she wants to be, but she is interested in functional medicine, cardiology, pediatrics, and dermatology. by @pittstateamp.up

Today our AMP freshmen got to participate in a suture lab. Students learned and practiced three different suture techniques, giving them the hands-on opportunity to develop valuable skills and get a glimpse into the hands-on side of medicine! by @pittstateamp.up

Last week, our AMP Sophomores participated in Stop the Bleed training, gaining hands-on experience with life-saving techniques for severe bleeding emergencies, including wound packing and tourniquet use.

Our next AMP-UP student is Leen Mahfouz. Leen is from Overland Park, KS. She loves to read thrilling books, listen to music, build puzzles and Legos, pick flowers and create bouquets, and spend time with friends! She wants to become a cardiac surgeon and possibly specialize in pediatric cardiac surgery! She chose AMP-UP because it has a close-knit environment helping her to meet amazing people with the same ambitions to change a person's world. by @pittstateamp.up

Our next student is Cael Carlin! Cael is from McDonald County, Missouri. He loves traveling and going on adventures. Cael wants to become an orthodontist and chose AMP-UP to meet people with similar interests while pursuing his career in dentistry at an accelerated pace. by @pittstateamp.up

Our AMP-UP students recently visited Kansas City University’s Joplin campus for an afternoon of hands-on learning and exploring healthcare education! They watched KCU medical students practice Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), experienced the simulation lab, practiced point-of-care ultrasound, and explored digital dentistry simulation!

The visit was also a great opportunity to connect with KCU faculty and current students while meeting potential future classmates from MKEAP and MSSU!

Each Friday we are going to introduce one of our new AMP-UP students!

Our first student is Claire! Her hometown is Merriam, Kansas. She chose AMP-UP because it aligns with her interests and allows her to gain hands-on knowledge while making meaningful connections. She wants to become a pathologist and loves to read and cross-stitch in her free time. by @pittstateamp.up

AMP-UP students Adam, Kaylee, and Braylon returned yesterday from an incredible short-term study abroad experience in Belize where they joined other PSU biology students to help run medical clinics serving approximately 250 people 💙🌎

It was a hands-on experience filled with learning, connection, and cultural immersion—from providing care, building relationships, and gaining insight into global healthcare. Outside of the clinics, highlights included experiencing the process of coffee and chocolate making and visiting historic Mayan ruins!!
