When the idea for this shoot dropped, I knew I’ll be needing a vintage couch to create the images in my head, so I set out to look for one, I saw two but they were both in a bad shape then finally I found this one, but the owner wasn’t around so I kept going back there until I met up with her, we had a bit of a lengthy talk before she finally agreed to let me use it on the premise that I must drop something valuable to ensure that I return it, mind you this couch has been left to rot under an orange tree for who knows how long but the Lord knew I’ll be needing it soon, so he preserved it for me, well you don’t want to know what I dropped, but then it was worth enough to get a good set of a modern day couch, funny how I didn’t even think what if mama mistakenly breaks this thing what will I say well thank God that didn’t happen, at that point all I was concerned about was how to get the art in my head out and I knew that it will be incomplete without that old couch, I took it with me and cleaned it up properly, after the shoot I brought back to her, mma lekwa oche gi, (mama here’s your couch) she said I should keep it back under the orange tree where I picked it from, but na na na I had to convince her that the couch was still in a good shape and it was still fit for everyday use considering that it was also cleaned up now, so she should please let me keep it in her veranda away from the rain and sun, in her words Eche’m na oreche go ( I thought it’s rotted ) then she felt the couch and greed with me, you needed to see the smile on mama’s face as if I bought her a new couch, she thanked me and asked when I’ll come to photograph her, well that’s between mama and I 😂.

I contacted Lorrie @lomara_apparel to create something rare and she came through with this, and Treasure @dorismmaogbodo wore it ever so graciously, getting to the location with everything that was needed was a stress of its own but thankfully we were able to pull it off. Though this shoot was slated to happen at sunset, but then, the uncertainties of life happened I guess, so we had to shoot at night and we came up with this images 📸❤️
