11/31 Hanging out on @chrispiascik #stinkyober26 challenge because his prompts are 🔥and also stinky. This witch has a MAD CAT. Why mad? Maybe the cat is mad about it job — riding on a broom every night. Maybe it’s mad about its food. Maybe it’s mad about that dumb hat. Maybe it’s mad about the state of the world. Maybe it’s all of the above. 5/31 Today was “a day” in Adultsville and I just wanted to come home and stare out the window and ponder at the sheer amount ridiculous stuff I seem to be encountering daily. Realizing that no amount of pondering was going to solve anything…I headed over to #whimsytober2026 — where their prompt was “berry”. Out of my bewildered brain popped a witch who made armloads of Moonberry Jam. I’m imagining it as a color-changing, magical sweet treat that erases the memory of the day’s utterly stupid crap after one bite. Load me up. #whimsytober2026 by @pixelandpost

This mer-witch has gone catatonic on her diet of sea slugs (pictured here is my version of a Phyllidia varicosa aka the Varicose Wart Slug — the real deal it’s pretty cool looking honestly). I’m feeling this lady, all we have in our fridge is a jar of expired pickles and some limp celery. I ate cereal for dinner (again). For today’s drawing I’m hopping over to #whimsytober2026 where the prompt is “renaissance” or as my pal Jen and I referred to it in (f)art school “The Renee-sance”. I was like - WTF was happening with the Witch scene in the Renee-sance? And I found out — a lot. I stumbled upon a play called The Witch of Edmonton written in 1621. It’s about an unpopular old lady named Elizabeth Sawyer who gets shunned by her neighbors and sells her soul to the devil who appears as a black dog named Tom. Supposedly she feeds him with her “third teet” aka a “witches teet”. So yeah. That’s a lot. Anyway….if I ever go to a Ren Faire I think I’ve found my costume. #whimsytober2026 #octoberdrawingchallenge by @pixelandpost

It’s October 1, which means it’s October Drawing Challenge season. The other day I found myself doodling witches and thought maybe I should jump in. I’m in a major funk, on all fronts. I’m not putting in reps in any area of my life except doomscrolling and disassociating in front of the tv. Will drawing witches every day help? Who knows. Will I finish this one? Who knows. Is this probably healthier for me than doomscrolling? I’d guess yes. This for the classic #inktober2026 challenge “Apple”. This witch has both a poison apple and IBS. Here’s my redo of the original Dirty Dancing poster. I watched this film about a zillion times as an 80s teen. Usually in my bestie Kathleen’s basement after making a triple batch of raw cookie dough, and arming ourselves with a half rack of Diet Coke. The “I carried a watermelon” line always stood out to me — but it wasn’t until much later that I realized the symbolism that watermelon held. Like Baby herself — it’s awkward, it’s ripe, it’s sweet, it’s heavy with the possibility of summer. It’s her ticket to Johnny — who will have her writhing around to “Hungry Eyes” moments later (and we all remember what kind of Dirty Dancing happened after that). The themes of consent and choice in this movie weren’t lost on me as a teen. It gave us a Hollywood view into the pre-Roe world only our mothers knew and that we couldn’t fathom returning to. Last summer I cooked up a poster project for myself — a poster every two weeks for a year. I’m doing gig posters, some movie tribute posters, and the like. This one is special to me. It’s a tribute to my sweet baby punk cousin Chris’ @followthisheart ‘s band @thescurvies . I’m super inspired by his commitment to his art while also being a great dad, partner, and holding down a 9-5. Chris is one of 10 of my cousins on my dad’s side, and I’m proud to be part of such a creatively-charged crew. When Chris’ sister was 3, she told her mom our family had “the gift of hands”. We all laughed because it was cute, but damn that kid was right. We build homes, design kitchens, do plumbing, screen-printing, are floral designers, teachers, musicians, and artists. I’m grateful to all our parents (and our shared grandma Madoline) for nurturing all that creativity. Someday I’ll write a memoir of our creative shenanigans. Anyway, I love the song “Break Even or Die Trying” by Chris’ band. It feels like the best mantra for a creative career. The lyrics “And if we come up empty, at least our hearts were true” feels like everything our family instilled in us. I envisioned a snake tattooed with all the objects that show up in The Scurvies songs, eating its tail like an ouroboros (a symbol of death and rebirth) but still going even though it had its head chopped off. Back in June I organized a poster show for alumni and students @creative_academy as part of their portfolio show (aka portshowlio). Just like the gig poster exercise in my class we were assigned someone else’s favorite band to make a fantasy gig poster. I got @daftpunk chosen by my former student and now pal Dunham @iamdoneham .Turns out Daft Punk has a similar effect on us — an instant mood boost that makes you want to dance. Instead of focusing on the band and their iconic look — I just wanted to show some people loving their music. I don’t know why they are just giant heads on top of legs but I’m excited about it. I made the poster for their show in 1997 at Paradiso in Amsterdam, 3 years after I lived there. I totally would have taken Dunham’s mom to this show because she’s amazing and Dunham probably wasn’t born yet. #gigposter #daftpunk #paradiso by @pixelandpost
