just wanted to do something different on this account where i show off some of my favorite asian artists by either posting their work on my stories or “recreating” their work through my own eyes. as you know the asian community has been hit with so much aggression and racism spiking within this past year. it’s something i feel like has always occurred but something we never really talk about since we’re told to basically suck it up by our elders... but once our elders are hit, it’s a different story. one thing i want to showcase with this mini “project” are: 1. the artist 2. different ways the media presents asian men and women, from either being submissive/overly sexualized/losers/etc. and 3. asian american experiences.

so for this first post, i’m showcasing/recreating a photo from one of my favorite photographers: HIROSHI HAMAYA. this photo is the “Market Trader selling Sponges, China, 1954.” hiroshi hamaya is a japanese photographer who started off by documenting cities & landscapes, but later becoming very intrigued by people and traditional culture. from photographing japan’s back coast to demonstrations against us-japan security to japan’s landscapes, hamaya has a broad list of beautiful art pieces that both speak a volumes and showcases beauty.

this is a self portrait i recreated last year for class while i first thought about this project. (big shoutouts to @jessguillenphoto & @filmw.maggie for helping me create this)

hi long time no see, i’ll try to post more photos i’ve taken but i’ve just been feeling bad about my photography recently lol. but that’s okay, this will be exposure therapy.

this is from my family cruise trip to alaska where clay and i fell in love with skagway. this photo was taken on the white pass & yukon railway.
