The word you don't often hear in the same breath as Lucian Freud is tender. Unflinching, yes. Brutal, sometimes. Uncomfortable, often. But standing inside the "Drawing into Painting" exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery — curated with such quiet devotion by @davidelidawson — tenderness is the word that kept finding me. From the childhood drawings his mother saved, to a late self portrait, what you feel in every room is the weight of someone looking at another person with complete and total seriousness. Not cruelty. Not voyeurism. Devotion. The kind most people never receive from anyone in their lives. Some of the smallest paintings in the show carry more gravity than works ten times their size. There were moments standing in those rooms where it felt less like a museum and more like stumbling into something private - never meant for my eyes, but grateful it was saved. Congratulations @davidelidawson & @nationalportraitgallery on an exhibition that does genuine justice to the man, the work and the way that he worked. Intimate, honest, and quietly devastating in the best possible way. by @pj.macgregor

Our view out into the infinite horizon was always in a state of constant change. That's one of the many things that we treasured about where we lived. And often, the views that turned out to be the most sublime were the ones that appeared, if even momentarily, at the end of a "bad weather" day. We needed a few rays to break thru today and they did. Thank you all for making us feel so loved. Every last bit of it matters to us more than you could possibly know by @pj.macgregor
Update: We just learned that our home is gone. Thank you for all of your notes. Our family is safe. We evacuated around 1pm yesterday. As we left our house the hill across the street from our home ignited. We don't know if our house survived. If it did it'll be a miracle. We're all so heartbroken and in a devastated state of shock. by @pj.macgregor
