This was Dells 2nd Nats and she’s only year 10!! She’s got a very high ceiling, and we gonna work towards it. She had an awesome tournament, scoring 18 points against Manukura, defending and rebounding well too! Looking forward this summer, we gonna put in that work, she’s coming back next year as a guard at 6 ft 1.
👀

Harlyn finished highschool basketball today, I think the word that sums up his time with SKC is “Change”. When I applied for Harlyn to go to Saint Kent’s, the coach was Aaron Young who accepted his application after a try out, the squad had Merrick, Hunter & Cooper Te Ratana, Cooper Lepou. I was really excited for Harlyn to be around these kids, as he was wanting take his basketball seriously, When he arrived in 2024, Aaron had left, Merrick had left to the US, Hunter would leave after nationals in 2024, then Cooper in 2025, needing to go as they had outgrown things here. Coop Lepou moved Rosmini, Ryan Duggan left in the middle of this season, also to the US. @harlynking._ navigated all this with extraordinary resolve, I feel this experience has been most valuable thing he has learned from basketball. despite all the changes, & leading a young team. only Harlyn, Harry & Ethan are seniors the rest are mostly Year 11 & under, despite all this he had such a great year, one of the top players in Auckland Prems, but he’s sorely underrated!! he’s never cared for the accolades, he just goes about his business, he plays the game to win and compete, everything else is fluff, I love that attitude in the social media era. He’s a baller! True 3 level scorer, a Swiss Army knife at 6 ft 5, having to play from SG to C on defence most games, always gets a couple blocks & steals a game! Much Respect from this Old Baller 🫡❤️ Harlyn loves to compete, he loves his teammates and the memories they have on and off the court over the years. he’s heading to Auckland University next year to pursue his goals, I’m extremely proud of you Harlyn, I love you are your own Man, you never sway from your path.
it’s a privilege to watch you both play this game I love, and do so well. 💙🤍 Love my Kids by @pjae08

I didnt come through the BBNZ pathway, I came through the Otara Park circuit. A space the local youth created at local park hoops. We had 3 crews, The Otara Park Boys (OPB) at Otamariki Park, The Dawson Park Ballerz on Dawson Road, and our crew The Velodrome Ballerz who played at the half court hoop on Boundary Road. We learned from each other and highlights on NBA Action, our game was flashy, we attacked the hoop trying to get posters and outrageous Jellies, everything we did had some sauce on it. I then started going to runs at rec centres & Mormon chapels, Allen Brewster, Otara, Pakuranga, Clendon, etc We went to parks in other boroughs, like Potters Park, runs at Corbans in Henderson and the Legendary Youthtown/Boystown on Nelson Street, all the best hoopers in the City congregated here. the Monday Night run was always packed, 8 or 9 teams waiting on the sideline, 45 min wait if you lose. You needed to stack your team to run court.

I made my first rep team by accident, I went to Allen Brewster wanting to play pick up, but ended up in Counties U18 trial, my first time with the ball in the scrimmage, I went baseline and dunked on the centre who was a NZ Rep. I made the team. Same with my NZ rep trial, I didn’t know I was going, but my counties coach Simon Jackson signed us up and took us down to Taupo for the trial. Tab Baldwin spotted me at the trial and invited me to the Auckland Stars. I also made that NZ team. I met Mike Tait, he elevated my game 10 fold, through teaching me fundamentals, I played on his Avondale College & Auckland Rep teams, he & my team mates from those teams raised my levels to where I became a paid NZNBL player.
I’ve created the space I wished I had growing up, taking what we had at the park, and giving it structure and a home. 🏠

AIMS Games 2026

Won 5
Lost 4

Placed 16th

Another great AIMS games, my 7th campaign. We started really well, unbeaten through pool play & crossover, but met the eventual Champions Clendon Park School in our first Top 16 match, who were head & shoulders above all teams, we pushed them hard and played one of our best games (for 3 quarters), but their quality shone through. From this point though we slowly faded, our performances started to drop, we faced an always strong Tauranga Intermediate team for a top potential top 10 finish, but we could only pull together 2 good quarters, we’re neck & neck, until they pulled away late. Then our final 2 loses were disappointing as we got beaten by St Peter’s by 3, a team we consistently have beaten this year by big margins, but you got to be good on the day, and they were better. Then finally went down to Aquinas College in our final match today. We just didn’t have enough in the tank. That’s something for me to look at going forward, and adding more conditioning to our preparation, as we were missing open layups that we normally eat up with ease, leaving nearly 20 points on the floor in each of those last 3 games.

Super proud of these young Men, they really did give their all and played some wonderful basketball, making Top 16 out of 84 teams is an achievement!

I got one tech in the final match, The Ref wasn’t responding to the 3 times I said “ref”, when I tried to ask about a very contentious call, he had his back to me and all I could see his horse tail, so I said “Hey horse tail”, he responded to that by giving me a tech 😂 the poor young fella seemed stressed out, as it is a tough job, it was my only interaction with any ref the whole tournament, so I felt I did better in this space. 👀😅 it was a nice horsey though 🤷‍♂️

Anyway it’s always a great week in the Mount, looking forward to next year. 💙🤍 by @pjae08

Washing away our loss to a wonderful Clendon Park team.

To beat teams like that you have to be sharp for 4 quarters, the final score doesn’t reflect the game, we were in it until a few mins into the 4th, they turned up the heat and we couldn’t stay with them.

Super proud of this crew, they could hold their heads high after that one, as they gave everything, and sometimes we come up short even though we give our all.

Still a Top 10 spot up for grabs, so we still got plenty to play for.

The rainbow in the pic suggests a brighter day for us tomorrow.

We are into the Top 16!!!

The Boys have gone really well considering our side of the draw is really hard (seems to be like this every year), we have Clendon Park up first for our top 16 game, they are tough but we are here to Win, so at some point you are gonna have to beat the best teams.

Back down in Mount Mauganui for @aims_games 2026.
Sleeping in the trusty @jucyworld campervan. We actually stay at a beautiful home right across the road from the beach, but I prefer a bit of privacy at night so I sleep in a camper outside the house.
We started the tournament well with a W in our first game against Faith City School from Whanganui, up next Orewa College at 5.20pm.

We didn’t make things easy on ourselves, but regardless, the Saint Kentigern College Premier Boys Team is off to Nationals.

Shout out to @harlynking._ who was rock solid all tournament, lead from the front, and carried them when they needed him most. Also Big up to @kololiku_ for having break out tournament, and showing that the art of post foot work is still highly effective. 🪼🪼 by @pjae08

Safe Travels to our @eastbayjellies hooper @cooper_teratana as he departs today for his Junior year at @darrowhoops

You make the game look easy, just like how you make this process of living abroad, walking an elite pathway where more have failed than succeed look easy.

Much love Coop, always proud

A few years ago Nadal brought along a friend to Jellies to try out, this young man had just arrived in the country from overseas, he didn’t speak much English at the time, which wasn’t a problem because he spoke Basketball just fine. Being brought up with a European style of basketball, Nevo has that eyes up awareness, knows how make the right pass at the right time, but where me and him get along the most, is his imagination, creativity and willingness to try audacious moves on court even if he fails, as he shapes his game, he will find the balance between safe and amazing plays, both are essential. His bag is deep because his imagination is, something I very much encourage in all Jellies. No ordinary.

Nevo is a DAWG, with the potential to be a wonderfula PG, who cannot only distribute the rock but score the ball in all ways, once he find this balance he will be formidable.

He still has a long way to go, but he loves this game, he’s hungry, always has a ball in his hands, always trying new things, and one of my favourites.

Luke’s story is one that lots of us don’t hear about, but it’s common. As a player, Luke is a dedicated trainer, he’s got the physical tools, the right mindset, the right people around him, but sports can be cruel.

He came back from a stint in the US, that didn’t work out and came back hating basketball, wanting to just chuck it all in. I sat with him and talked about an opportunity I had to doing some coaching and mentorship, he agreed to come on board, and since then hes been an integral part of my business, and the growth we’ve seen in the last couple years.

He’s a natural with the kids, he’s built to do this work, he has an acute sense of purpose, he’s astute to the needs of the kids, and is growing to be a wonderful facilitator. He works as a mentor for my business with some of the most difficult kids in primary/intermediate school, a job where you can’t pretend, where being the genuine article is essential to success, as the kids we work with are sensitive to BS, and they all love him.

He’s currently recovering from fractures in his back, he’s had many concussions, just an unlucky run when it comes to injuries, but he stays positive, keeps turning up, even on crutches.

I have the upmost respect for this young man, and I will continue to walk alongside him, teaching him the ways, and ensuring he has a bright future to walk toward. by @pjae08
